The lost weekend

I took Thursday and Friday off last week because I was sick.

Thursday, I had a fever, chills, muscle weakness, the works, so I fell asleep watching movies at home. I wasn't well enough to concentrate on video games, but I got better at midday enough to go get groceries and then to convince myself to go to the manicure I had scheduled (otherwise I'd have lost the Groupon money). That was my fatal mistake. They had lost my appointment, so I sat for 45 minutes, mostly because I started to feel so lousy, I couldn't work up the will to leave. I slumped through that appointment and the walk home and crashed again.

Friday, I was feeling much better, save for some strange nausea and lower intestinal distress. I trudged out to the vet group's seminar because I needed to ask opinions about schools (they were really helpful and unhelpful at the same time; no decision has been made for me, alas, but I have a better idea of how to think about it now). And I went home to borrow a car from my parents so I could move a few boxes back to their house. I got as far as packing two boxes in before dizziness and my guts revolted. I did get to play Mass Effect 3 for a while, between trips to the bathroom, that is. Lucky me, I was up until 5 am Saturday on those trips before medications caught up to my runaway guts. I'd say sleep loss was the worst part, but the bloating to the point of stabbing pain and near diaper-rash I had going definitely was the worst. Sleep, I can get later. Pain is harder to amend.

That was essentially my weekend, which sucked because I love St. Patrick's Day and severe intestinal distress kept me splayed out on the couch when I wasn't parked in the bathroom. I couldn't even sit up to play board games because something about that position aggravated the shit out of my intestines (literally). So instead of wearing my green shirt, making my green cupcakes, and hanging out with lots of awesome people, I rolled about pathetically for a weekend. Hurrah.

The best that can be said about this weekend is that I apparently visibly lost weight (according to my coworker, who met me coming in this morning). I think this is the universe's twisted way of telling me it granted my wish--I had joked, when my roommate wellgull was suffering the same pains last week and not eating or retaining when he did eat, that I should be so lucky to have that right before my brother's wedding. Oops. I'm back at work today. I slept through the whole night, which is the first time in days, which is nice, but because I napped while waiting for Uncharted 2 to download all its updates, I had trouble getting to sleep early. Point is, I'm in great shape to get my things packed, my room tidied, and my lab report written up (the thing that takes me, routinely, 7 hours to do when it's not two labs worth of material) by Wednesday night. Great shape.
