This is scarier than any of the movies in the meme below:
Mark Wahlberg is the Crow if he wants to be. For the record, I love The Crow inordinately. I even liked one of the sequels to it okay. This is news that makes me make the face you see in my icon.
I need a meme, STAT:
So, what is your favorite horror movie:
I don't have a favorite. I can never pick. I gotta go by decades. As far as the classics go, I happen to love Bride of Frankenstein. It was funny and subversive. Favorite classic, though, bar none, is the 1932 Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Talk about subversive--there isn't a naked-lady-having movie out today that could touch this one for how playfully sexy this one could be. Frederick March is a vision as Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde for all that the Mr. Hyde makeup a) uncomfortably resembles a racial stereotype, and b) almost took March's face off.
More modern horror: Night of the Living Dead (again with the subversive!), Aliens, the Dawn of the Dead remake--all of these are some of the best and most watchable horror movies that I have, in fact, watched time and again.
Is it related to Werewolves, Demons, Vampires, etc.?
No, actually. You can argue that Aliens and zombies are close, but they're not monsters in the same vein as those groups. I'm less of a fan of the monster-as-externalized-fear-of-man and more of a body-horror fan.
How many times have you seen it?
God only knows. Not as many times as I've seen Star Wars, more often than I've seen the Star Wars prequels.
Have you seen the ORIGINAL (1974) Texas Chainsaw Massacre?
To my everlasting shame, no, not yet.
Do you know who Bela Lugosi is? How about Lon Chaney Jr.?
Stupid question, begone! Here's some fun facts about both men to dispel that stupidity: Bela Lugosi was buried in his Dracula costume, and, over his casket, one of his friends was heard to say, "Do you think we should stake him? Just to be sure?" Lon Chaney Jr. was a notorious drunk with a chip on his shoulder that his lycanthrope alter-ego would even have been impressed by. This is because his father, Lon Chaney Sr., the man of a thousand faces, was much more famous in both their times than Jr. was. Jr. got the last laugh by virtue of having coming along later in the film industry's history at an apex of the horror classics.
Can you name a movie that either of them was in?
Bela Lugosi died making Plan 9 From Outer Space. Another fun fact about him: his wife's chiropractor played his double in the movie after his death. He also played Murder Legendre (wonderful name!) in White Zombie.
Lon Chaney Jr. was in Abbot and Costello Meet Frankenstein, with Bela Lugosi as well. (Oh, okay, fine, he was in most of the Wolfman movies, too.)
Do you think the Freddy Kreuger from the 80s or the now was better?
The now? This is just poorly worded in addition to being a dumb question: Robert Englund trumps, no question. His Freddy may seem ridiculous, but he was great and is still really game to do the role and has fun with it, bless him.
Why were there so many Friday the 13th movies?
I have no idea. Money? For the express purpose of bringing me, personally, Freddy vs Jason?
Do you think people went back to the camp hoping for a better summer?
I have to assume that the odds of one camp being the site of several mass murders over time is nearly astronomically small. Maybe they kept thinking they'd beat the odds?
Why does the girl ALWAYS run up the stairs?
Cardio.
You ever notice they fall a lot, too?
One of the only truly funny jokes in Scary Movie was the extensive scene of the victim daring the killer to hurt her, where in she kept goading him with, "Oh, I bet you want me to fall down?" And she would. "And, of course, I'll break my leg." And she twists it until it does. Even the ghost-face killer was like, "Biiiiitch, you be craaaaaazy."
How can you tell a hot chick is getting ready to get killed?
Nudity, sex, booze, drugs, being alone at night.
Anyway, who was scarier: Freddy or Jason?
Freddy by default--I saw New Nightmare too young to really process that monsters don't poke out into real life. Also, Jason wasn't originally the killer, so it's hard to be afraid of a kid whose mom fought his battles.
Leatherface or Pumpkinhead?
Leatherface.
Alien or Predator?
ALIEN. DEAR CHRIST.
Michael Myers or Herman Munster?
Oh, I have a soft spot for Herman, so I'll give him this one.
Have you ever seen Pet Semetary?
No, actually. ::adds to Netflix queue:: Oh, oops, it's already there.
Did you read the book?
No.
Which Stephen King movie was your favorite?
It's cheating, but the TV movie of The Stand. If I had to pick a theatrical release, Needful Things.
Did you know Cujo was played by 3 St. Bernards and 2 Rottweilers?
No, but, aw, puppies.
Did you see Poltergeist?
No yet.
Did Rosemary's Baby creep you out at all?
Yes and no. The whole husband-sponsoring-his-wife-to-rape-by-Satan was entirely horrible. I kind of adored Rosemary's decision to raise her Satanic baby, though.
Do you like Alfred Hitchcock?
Tsch, another stupid question. Naturally, I do. Every film of his I see makes me like his work more.
What is the worst horror movie you ever saw?
God, I've seen so many, but there's bad and then there's no-budget, shot-with-your-grandfather's-camera bad, and that's Thankskilling. It only counts as horror because I'm horrified that I didn't turn it off.
Is a horror movie a good date movie?
Only if it's not just torture porn.
Why are they remaking all the movies anyway?
My roommates keep telling me it's my fault. It probably is. It's money. It's always money.
Who is your favorite Underworld character?
What, the Vampire/Werewolf Romeo and Juliet? We're counting that as horror, are we? Well, my vote goes to Michael Sheen. No one chews scenery quite on his level, save perhaps Bill Nighy. Bill Nighy, however, doesn't have sex on top of a castle wall while supporting his naked upper half hanging out over the ramparts. Michael sheen, you rock on with your surprising hard-bodied self!
How many chapters do you think Friday the 13th will have this time around?
How many CW actors/actresses do they have?
Do you believe in ghosts?
Don't be absurd.
If so, have you seen them?
No, because belief in ghosts is bullshit.
Is there a place that you believe is so haunted that you would never go in?
There's a space under the floor in my parents' kitchen that scared me as a kid, mostly because I was sure monsters were in it. Then, spiders. Never ghosts. Still don't like walking past it, and it spooks me, sure, but haunted? Nah.
Are you paranoid?
Nope. In fact, I might be a little too blithely indifferent.
Do you see things at night?
Yep: my cats. Headbutting me in the face.
Have you ever heard something eerie that made you run?
Nope.
Are you afraid of the dark?
Not as such.
What's the scariest movie you have ever seen?
Aliens and probably Paranormal Activity. I really didn't expect anything from that latter one, and it really got me. I think the fact that I was alone in a room full of strangers all holding their breath as I was helped a lot.
What are you scared of?
Spiders. Heights. Republicans being in control of government.
