(Hey, how about that? Americans who aren't fans of Alan Moore or otherwise enthralled to all things British, might have a good reason to remember, remember the fifth of November...)
I was just, very cynically, telling
shell524 that we just have to get over the fact that
everything is political nowadays--pumpkin carving included. Apparently, that's not the only outlet that has been tainted by the bad sportsmanship of politics:
a Detroit woman refuses to give candy to kids whose parents support Barack Obama Watch the video, feel free to call this woman a callous cunt because that's what she is.
Trick-or-treaters are being politicized. Really? Jesus wept, is this really what you think will help your candidate, lady? You do realize that, aside from a few teenagers who come to the door smelling suspiciously of shaving cream, most trick-or-treaters are too young to have even half a clue about who the fuck to vote for? If you want to punish the parents, upsetting their kids is a good way to do it. It's also a good way to get your fucking house egged. The only people who really suffer are a bunch of too-young toddlers, and you. And, by extension, your candidate of choice. So, congratulations on that EPIC FAIL.
Politics aside, how cute are kids who trick-or-treat? Seriously, I was walking down Broadway on my way home Friday, and I was reveling in the resurgence of the superhero costumes. There were Spider-Men everywhere. I saw a yellow-and-blue-comic-book-costume Wolverine with the most darling claws. A toddler Hulk, easily spotted a distance with his green muscle shirt and purple pants. ADORABLE. A group from about fourteen to four walked by as Batman Begins-style Batman (fourteen or so), comic/cartoon Robin (same age), modern comic Catwoman, with the jumpsuit and goggles (slightly younger), a Ledger-style Joker (four-six--and I'm with
snugglebunnyjm, what the F?), and a TEEEE-RIFFF-ICK Harley Quinn (young teen) who carried a giant mallet over her one shoulder.
Plus, every store had candy for them. I don't know how I missed this trend, but I fully support it. I was a little bit iffy about the liquor store doing it, though. At least they met the kids at the door with the candy, though that made it hard to get in around kids with a blinders-to-all-but-candy attitude. (Which was all of them.)
Hope y'all had a happy one.
