Rabastan Lestrange was a Stinger. Marlene had discovered their mutual love of the Wimbourne Wasps back when they were both in Hogwarts and assigned as Potions partners. It was one of the few things they had in common. They spent many civil, if not pleasant afternoons working together.
Once, during a raid, Rabastan filled the room with the sound of bees. It was almost impossible for Marlene to hear any other incantation the Death Eaters cast over the background buzzing.
The World Cup happened soon. The Death Eaters would be cheering for England. Marlene shivered every time she remembered that.

Sirius Black attended his first World Cup at age three and had been to every one since. The Cup was three weeks away and it was only now starting to sink in that he wouldn’t be going to this one.
He had some money saved up; he could afford tickets even if they weren’t as good as the ones his family always bought.
When Sirius ran away, he had naively believed that would the end of it. He wouldn’t have to fight with his family anymore. He could forget them, live a normal, peaceful life without them.
He was wrong.

Lily Evans was never going to be as big a Quidditch fan as her boyfriend was. Sometimes she didn't think it was possible for anyone to be as big a fan as James. His parents knew that, too, buying him tickets to the Cup when he finished at Hogwarts. It would be Lily's first time in Spain.
Then they joined the Order and were struck by the immensity. Lily volunteered to cover for him for the week he'd be away, wrangling help from Sirius, Remus and Peter.
James smiled weakly and kissed her forehead in appreciation. He stayed behind, too.

Dorcas Meadowes didn’t care for Quidditch. People always reacted one of two ways when they found this out: either they thought she was unpatriotic (even those who didn’t follow the sport obsessively still cheered for England while she didn’t give two figs whether they won or not) or else they dismissed her and her dislike as being typically female, too flighty to keep Chasers and Keepers straight in her head. Dorcas especially hated the latter. Sometimes she even considered following the game, just to show them up. It usually didn’t take long to forget that fancy, though. Quidditch was boring.

Remus Lupin’s wireless didn’t working properly. It hadn’t worked properly since Sirius had borrowed it for a prank, the feed now cutting out regularly whenever he tried to listen, but Remus hadn’t bought a replacement yet. He could go to the pub to listen to the Scotland-Argentina match, of course, since they wouldn’t very well be broadcasting anything else.
Peter invited him over to his flat instead. It was the first time the two of them had spent time together without James or Sirius or even Lily since leaving Hogwarts. Remus had missed that.
It was a fun evening.

Caradoc Dearborn usually liked spending time in the Order headquarters. The normal feeling of camaraderie collapsed when it became apparent Wales had the stronger team this year. The glares got more pointed and his boasting got even louder until someone sabotaged his dragon decorations, causing the real fire they breathed to backfire and burn them to a crisp. Caradoc seriously considered life back in Swansea.
Sirius Black saved his life during a raid. In response to Caradoc's gratitude, he made a disparaging comment on the Welsh Beaters. Caradoc couldn't help himself from returning Sirius' smirk before returning to the fight.

Gideon Prewitt bet against his brother Fabian on every single match. Not on the outcome, not after the first round Hungary-Japan match with its obviously weaker team when the brothers had to toss a coin to see who bet on Japan. Instead, they wagered how often the Keeper would get hit by Bludgers or how many fouls would occur in the first ten minutes of the game. As the tournament wore on, the bets got more and more outlandish. Eventually family and friends alike refused to watch the games with them, annoyed by their cheering at the weirdest times.

Mairead Bones thought her husband was crazy when he announced he was going to spend a relaxing evening at home with her and the kids when the final match was played. The kids had been becoming more and more rambunctious each game as the excitement of the World Cup got to them. By the time the pre-show started, they were running around and shouting loud enough to wake the neighbours over a Silencing Charm.
Edgar missed hearing the Snitch get caught. He was trying to get his youngest to calm down after her older brother pushed her to the ground.

Alice Longbottom missed the World Cup final-she was on duty that night. The Department of Magical Law Enforcement always wanted their presence to be known on game nights to cut down on the mischief that came along with high spirits. This went double now that there was a war and the mischief could turn deadly. Alice was still relatively junior; there was no question of whether she would be patrolling.
Frank had been an Auror for longer than Alice. He could have taken the night off, but he volunteered alongside her so she wouldn't have to miss it alone.
