New Year's was an absolute blast this year ( I mean, last year *g*) Partied with part of my group of friends that I've known since high school. We've all been scattered across Ontario and rarely get together all at the same time so it was a real treat to see them all again.
Of course, hanging out with people who have known you for ages will inevitably bring up times long gone- pranks pulled, old crushes, favourite hangouts, terrible teachers, etc. For a long time, I was a very nostalgic person. I always looked at old yearbooks and photo albums, and told people about what I used to do 'back home'. Bit by bit, that hasn't been as important to me as it was before. Which is ironic, considering everyone else around me seems to be more and more nostalgic *g*
Maybe I'm finding that there are just as many good things happening in the present as there were in the past. My interests have evolved, my friendships have deepened, and I've found new hangouts, new crushes, and even crazier stunts have been pulled! The only thing I still look back on are friends that I have lost touch with, had fallings out with, or hurt them in some way. I'm always curious as to how those people are, what they are up to, and whether they ever reminisce about the times we had when we were still hanging out.
I raise a glass, then, to friends old and new, to those I meet again and those yet to be met. Cheers and Happy New Year's.
