Summary: Feeling lost and adrift, Tsukasa and Natsumi turn to each other.
The look in Natsumi’s eyes gave Tsukasa pause. He’d seen her look this way before. She usually looked this way whenever it had become clear to her that she wasn’t going home this time. It had gotten worse after the dark world and she had met herself, but usually, she could keep it together. But every now and then, he would see her crack just a little bit and he would ache to reach out to her and take her in his arms, but something in him would stop him before he rushed to comfort her.
Tsukasa was confused and scared. Where were these feelings coming from? He’d never felt such longing before. He’d never needed to want to hold someone close, to want to love them, to just want someone. Or if he had, he certainly couldn’t remember it. But that was the effect having Natsumi around had begun to have on him. She made him desire things he’d never even thought of, like family, home… and someone to love.
A little part of him would be very happy if that someone to love happened to be Natusmi herself.
“Tsukasa-kun?”Her voice suddenly broke into his confused mind and he blinked, only to see her staring at him with wide, wet eyes. She’d been crying. She sniffled. “Why are you looking at me like that?”
When she stared at him this way, looking so beautiful and so vulnerable, Tsukasa found he couldn’t bring himself to raise his defenses. “I was a bit worried about you.” Was all he could say. “You look so sad.”
She blinked for a moment and he wondered if saying something like that was considered out of character for him in her mind.
“Sometimes I forget you have a heart.”She murmured, more to herself than to him. He almost asked her what she meant, but she continued. “You know, by all rights, I should be mad at you. You practically uprooted me from home to go on some crazy, half baked adventure with you. I’m beginning to wonder if I’ll ever see home again, but whenever I get upset, I realize that maybe this was all for some crazy reason that I don’t understand just yet.” She wiped her eyes. “But that, for some reason, does not stop me from wanting to just go home. Don’t you want to go home, too, Tsukasa?”The words were out before she remembered that Tsukasa didn’t remember home.
And then, Tsukasa realized something. Even if he never remembered where he came from, he had a home.
“Well, no matter where we go, I will always have a home there.”The words were coming out faster than he could think them… and he was clearly not trying to stop himself. “…because, Natsumikan… my home… is with you!”
The expression on his face and the look in his eyes were enough for Natsumi to know that Tsukasa hadn’t gone crazy and when he rushed to hold her in his arms, she didn’t stop him. She let him embrace her, snuggling into his warmth. He was comforting, now, reassuring… and all too human.
It was then, that Tsukasa knew that he loved Natsumi… and that there was no escaping the feeling. He didn’t care. Had it been earlier, he would have fought the emotion with all his heart, but he needed it too much now. He needed her too much.
“Stay.”Natsumi heard herself whisper, just loud enough for him to hear. “Here. With me. Forever.”
He smiled softly and kissed her gently before giving her his answer.
“I will.”
