#$%(*& Pollen Rant

So we had a busy week w/ multiple underway times. I stood Officer of the Deck underway for the first time (that's where I get to be in charge of the safe operation and navigation of the ship, directly reporting to the Captain up on the bridge).

Friday we did a family day cruise and I got to patrol out in the Puget Sound where we anchored by Seattle in the small security boat. It was fun, beautiful weather, a little cold. Got back onboard w/ that nasty warning tickly throat "you're about to get a cold" feeling. Bleh. Icing on the cake: realized that night at 5pm that our stand down period was beginning and I had duty so I wouldn't be able to go home that night. And that I had watch outdoors on the quarterdeck from 4am-8am!

So in short my productive weekend has been so far - not.

Did realize what was going on though. After dry/itchy/painful eyes and sinuses and sneazing all morning yesterday, I checked the local pollen forecast on weather.com - "high" for alder tree pollen in this area. I lucked out and missed this stuff last year b/c we were gone w/ the ship when spring came...which of course means I'm getting exposed to a new pollen for the first time now when I already know the same types back in NH definitely don't like me. *joy*

So now I slept until noon today (b/c I couldn't sleep for crap) and I finally gave in and took some Allegra so I'm hopped up on that now and so far I haven't done ANYTHING today. Now that I can finally breath at least I'm gonna try to go swimming and see if that helps me to feel better...running certainly is not an option right now since I tried that last night and the burning in my throat almost made me sick...

@#$)(*# Allergies...hopefully I'll be able to drink enough water and tea and hot-liquid stuffs that the Allegra won't knock my voice down an octave like it did the last time I tried it.
