PSYCHO SUMMER
Been way too long since I posted here. Since my last entry life has gotten busier than I thought was possible, including such *fun* things like:
Going to 3 section duty on the ship - translation this means that every three nights I have to stay overnight at the shipyard, and if the next day is a work day, work that whole day too...BLARGH.
The transmission in my Jeep basically shredded itself two weekends ago. Since it cleverly decided to break right before 4th of July weekend (when it seems many WA state mechanics decide to take extra long weekend vacations) this meant I put my car in the shop 2 Tuesdays ago and just finally got it back Friday afternoon. In addition to replacing most of the innards in the transmission I had to replace some seals between the transfer case adapters and the transmission connection, and a main seal on my engine. And a new battery. At least I got that part for free (yay SEARS!) - so the Jeep got some good 'lovin but at the gaping hole in my wallet totalling about $3.2K. Ouch.
So in addition to dealing w. the commute to Seattle w. no car (which basically consisted of me mooching rides from more people than I'd care to count, and riding my bike/walking to the base 1.5 miles away and taking the bus) - I've had other neat things happen like my HD with a large collection of TV shows and movies that I...acquired...in college deciding to also go FUBAR on me. One reformat later and all is well except for about the 30GB or so of stuff that I wasn't able to recover...blargh again.
In any event 3 section duty is kicking my ass but things are looking up because I'm taking a week of leave starting this Tuesday! My cousin is getting married in less than a week and I've been spending months helping her to fix up her super spiffy house and amazing back yard since they're hosting the wedding there...in exchange they have looked out for me since I came to WA and they cook me lots of free food:-)
Today I came home from duty (12am-4am watch...ewww) - and it's been a relaxing afternoon so far. I seasoned some iron pots that I bought weeks ago finally, and I'm currently trying another baking experiment with a cheese-cakey thing made from all sorts of neat ingredients. If it's good recipe will follow;-)
Next project: cleaning my wreck of an apartment so my brothers can crash here next week! w00t!
