Well my computer is fixed now, at least. Turned out to be the RAM had a bad connection, so reseating it did the trick. Of course that connection still succeeding in corrupting my old HD's window install to hell so I guess buying my sweet 250GB drive WAS worthwhile after all. Got to run my first ever (successful) Windows install all by myself and it actually worked! Yay me!
Now in the process of manually deleting everything off the old drive so I can reformat it to a nice, clean, storage drive for future use...sure does feel strange to highlight that big forbidden "WINDOWS" folder and hit "delete"! For those who are saying "silly Kate you can just right click the drive and choose 'format'" I will add that I DID try that first - it seems that the computer for some stupid reason thinks it is running something off of that drive (it's not - the whole install was done w. no second drive hooked up).
*shrug* with that done I can start moving on to more important things - like building a new case to hold three drives (perhaps my planned super-cool Matrix case? We'll see...) And also finishing unpacking/settling my apartment and building a wall/curtain-y thingy so I can turn my studio into a nearly-one-bedroom apartment!
OK time to crash, I'm actually getting up early tomorrow!
