otakuraven Made a post on the
flaglercollege live journal community conserning silentday.
A day to remember the 4000 babies that have been killed daily by abortions. There were also several comments.
And this was my response to that post and those comments for those that do not have access.
You'll find the original post on my friends page.
I have a few issues with some of the comments made, because I speak for
someone who has had an abortion...me. I attended flagler and even
though I am pro-choice, I still do respect events like this...just like
I have no problem with the PUBLIC display of crosses at the Prince of
Peace church on San Marco (thousands of crosses in the grass for the
Catholic Respect Life month).
First of all, yes, it IS
offensive, because it's as though the school is making itself
unquestionably clear where it stands on the issue. Endorsing this and
making it easier for the people involved to get the word out is not at
all neutral. This statement is wrong, it does not make the school
appear that it is anti abortion. It is simply that club/group of
individuals that is making the statement that they themselves are
anti-abortion. Also, it is NOT offensive, it is a controversial issue,
and if you can not accept the fact that it will rear its ugly head even
in the sanctity that is Flagler college, you live in a fantasy world.
This
event is truly no different than the alcohol event that is held right
around the same time. Why? Because in truth they talk about the same
things. Saving lives, be it of people who don't know how to control
their alcohol intake and make stupid decisions or a pregnant woman who
would rather abort her baby for some reason than carry it to full term
and put it up for adoption.
i think the school should let
us make our own choices. i don't think any controversial issue should
be a campus event. i think that it's okay to have groups of people
doing something such as this on their own, but not "let's send out a
mass e-mail to everyone". if someone sent out a mass e-mail about GLBT
i think there would be A LOT of controversy. it's a double edged sword
and it sucks. You can still make your own choice, as in you can
make the choice NOT to participate in the event. There is no where that
says you HAVE to acknowledge the table when you go by, there is no
where that says that you HAVE to participate by remaining silent or
collecting a red armband. So there for, you can still make your own
choices.
Catholic College Fellowship = DOES NOT REPRESENT THE VIEWS OF FLAGLER COLLEGE!
And
I was also raised Roman Catholic, but yes, I had an abortion and have
pretty much stopped actually practicing except when I am with my
family, yes, I go sit in church, but I do not take any sacriments nor
do I participate in any of the rituals - because that is my choice and
also I have come up against my own demons with the Catholic church
since I had my abortion at 17.
The reason the mass email was
sent out was because it was a campus club that is doing the event, and
again, you don't want to participate, then DON'T stop by the table,
DON'T take any of the information. It is as simple as that. Still not
satisfied, DON'T walk through the breeze way during that time period.
There are other ways to get around campus without going through the
breezeway.
Feel free to insult me, call me a bitch or
whatever, but I believe that this event should happen, and apparently
so does the administration since it did get approved.

Just thought I'd share. People are really starting to piss me off.
