Created by the writer of Gosford Park, Julian Fellowes, it's a Tv Show Set in an Edwardian country house in 1912, the series portrays the lives of the Crawley family and the servants who work for them. I watched last week, I loved it and I think it was one of the better shows airing in 2010. First season only has 7 episodes but the good news is that there will be a second season along with a Christmas special in 2011. ITV channel broacasted it in UK and I think PBS in US.
I think the strength of the show is the huge amount of characters (around 20) from both sides: masters and servants. The importance of everyone in the story is significant. Writers care about everyone and I think this is not easy to make it. Other strengths, of course, are the elegance of the place and costumes, scoring, photography, (tipical in this kind of stories) and acting, writing ... actors are really perfect for their roles (Maggie Smith is probably the most familar face from the cast)
I don´t like to spoil much but there are many and interesting plots with all the characters involved in some way. My favorites plots are from the servants side... William, O'Brien, Bates and Anna, I think, are some of favorites characters. I've enjoyed the "war powers" between them to gain butler and Lord's respect. Althought the most of character are really honorable.
BTW, I've found an insteresting site with all kind of information about Downton Abbey if someone is interested in it.
HERE. I hope people give a chance because it really worth it. :)
Spanish --> En España parece que Antena 3 está emitiendo ya anuncios sobre la serie, así que parece que pronto la tendremos en español y en abierto.
