What to do with my PC...

My PC has been sitting, borked, under my desk since October. I've been meaning to fix it for ages now, and I've come to the point where I'm wondering if I should bother at all. I originally built it as a gaming rig, but I've been doing mostly console gaming lately (not that I have been doing that much gaming lately anyway).

I've been wanting to upgrade to a MacBook Pro (I know, I know, I've turned into a gear slut). I only bought my MacBook last October, which suggests I can get a good resale price on it, and furthermore I already have a potential buyer (my Dad). On the other hand, there is still a price jump, and it would be nice to have some extra cash available to eash the upgrade.

This brings me to the idea of what to do with my tower. It is pretty useless right now. The memory and motherboard are shot. I can RMA the motherboard, but I would still need to get new memory, and I would also need to look into why it got fried in the first place (bad PSU, possibly, although it is a fairly good quality Antec, so I don't know). My options are as follows:

  • Fix it and keep it, and dual boot linux and windows. Store files, play games, etc. Although I built it a few years ago so it's not the most up-to-date gaming machine...
  • Fix it and sell it. See note above about being a little outdated
  • Sell the parts and/or give parts to friends

The first option is appealing because it would be nice to have a stable machine around that is not a laptop. Also something fun to play around with. The second two options are appealing because they involve extra money towards a MBP. I need to decide what my priorities are at this point, I suppose. I don't even know if I could get that much for my tower in any case, since most of it is circa-2004.

Suggestions welcome.
