The festival started tonight, and I went to go see Tekkon Kinkreet at the Hall theater. The drawing/modeling was superb, and so detailed that I would love to just pause the film and look at every minute detail of the city. The themes introduced throughout the film were also pretty moving - black vs. white, death vs. life, new and sparkly vs. old and dirty... There were also a bunch of random elements to the film i.e., "were those dudes aliens?!" which were kind of weird but not enough that they had a negative effect on anything.
I'm going to go see another movie on Saturday called Arch Angels, which is also Japanese, but not animated. Then next week I'm going to see Death Note and its sequel with Alex. There are probably a few other movies that I'll go see at Fantasia, too. It's a great way to spend the summer! (you can see I'm not a huge outdoorsy person eheheheh).
