Oh man, Portland! You MISSED out!
Keri was fabulous at the Music Millenium last night. One of the things I most love about her is how much she puts out even if the audience is thin. So she gave a killer packed-house performance to a dozen people on couches and thumbing through rows of CDs, and afterward (like always!) people were coming up to me saying, "Wow! She's phenomenal!"
In addition to songs from Fearless, she also sang "Moving to Dallas" specifically for me and my niece. I've never heard it live, and it was a gorgeous arrangment. She also sang two songs that were so new they aren't even titled yet. She sang one of them Saturday night and said it was listed as "New Song" on the songlist. I think she said later that she's calling it the "Whoo Woo" song until she comes up with a title ("Whoo Woo" is close anyway). Great song! A question song: "Wasn't it the pain?...Wasn't it the fever?" (or something like that). The second was also fabulous: inspired by the blues Jonny Lang sings but uniquely Keri's; the theme was something like, "I'm singing a new song, but it's not the blues, and it's not about you." Look to hear more of these songs.
The coolest thing was seeing her again in a venue where I could have counted her eyelashes, we were so close to the stage. I suspect the chances for that are rapidly dying.
Oh, and she called us (my sister, my niece and I; aka The Frumps) FRIENDS! From the stage!! OMG! :::waving my hands in front of my cheeks to cool them off::: ;-)
P.S. She's playing tonight and tomorrow night at the Newark; last I heard, there were tickets available. GO!! But don't look for me in the "Madame Frump heart K.No!" shirt because I spilled food on it last night and didn't get it cleaned. Sigh.
Edit: apparently it's the "Ooo whoa" song (though I still don't know the spelling). And they are playing at the NewMark theater. Oops.
