In Memoriam: Pre-Laptop Life on Soft Copy

Feb 12, 2006 05:06

When I heard that our downstairs computer crashed (which I'd inadvertently caused), I resigned myself to having lost the entirety of my soft copy life pre-laptop - in short, everything before I went abroad and came back (apparently) a different person. So, that would be all my early digital pictures, my favorite images from various fandoms, my fanfiction - slash and otherwise / authored or simply saved favorites, internet bookmarks, just...everything. My entire highschool life was there, for God's sake. It's like a part of my personality is just...gone. My brother got someone to come over and fix things, but because I was out that morning for a job test, he didn't call me to ask what I wanted saved. Everything but a few random notepad files is gone - as in EVERYTHING. I mean, I know I hadn't touched those files since I came back (more than a year now), but still, it had always been THERE and now I feel... I don't know. It might be denial, or it could be the part in me that's saying 'move on'. I'm turning an astounding 22 years old this year, I'm graduating from college in a few weeks and already looking for work, and frankly speaking, when was the last time I read a Weiss Kreuz fic? ...But, I can't deny the fact that alot of that was a big part of my life for a very long time, right until the moment I left. I never even got around to finishing the filing and sorting of all my files in their own neat little folders... And my videos...and music... Oh God. I feel sad now. And small.

Suddenly growing up isn't all it's cut out to be. And now my music video for school of "Everybody's Changing" is more than appropriate. I've changed, my friends have changed, my family, too - and sometimes I wish it didn't need to be that way.

end of everything
