True Blood 2x09
I've been thinking about the credits for True Blood, and the more I think about it the more I realise that the credits sequence is, pretty much literally, perfect for the show.
Basically, we've got four main elements -
1. The song. Now, IDK about you guys, but I am firmly of the opinion that they couldn't have picked a better theme if they'd had one written especially. (Me? Jace Everett fangirl? Well, since you mention it...)
and then there's the visual component:
2) The dancing and the half-naked people - representing sex.
3) the alligator, snake, venus fly-trap, decaying animals - death, obviously.
4) the religious people/ceremonies/stuff - well, religion is a big part of the show.
All in all... the song, combined with the images, just makes this awesome, bloody, picture of what vampires are - sex and seduction and blood and death, all bundled into one. No wonder they're so popular.
And now, on to the episode...
OK, so... er, yes, I am a bit wibbly over Godric. Even though I knew it would happen, seein' as I've read the book. He was just awesome. Also, now I'll never get that Godric-Maryann deathmatch I wanted. :(
I'm also wibbly about (and on behalf of) Eric. Just 'cause... oh, fuck, he's just... Eric.
(the tears of blood are really not helping the matter. nor is wholly!unexpected!naked!Eric.)
I'm also now 99.9999999999999999999999% convinced that there was something less-than-platonic between them. I mean, come on, they had a thousand years together. It must've happened at least once.
I also feel like I should apologise to Bill. Mostly because he's been kinda awesome and badass lately, but I've not been appreciating him properly. Sorry, Bill.
(FYI, nothing and no-one on this planet will stop me shipping Sookie/Eric. Especially after this episode. Again, sorry, Bill.)
As for the non-vampiric characters:
Well, I kinda want to marry Jason 'bout now. I won't bother tryin' to explain, 'cause I can't.
Sookie... ah, yeah. Keep bein' awesome, Sookie.
Tara: Um. Well, I'm just glad Lafayette's around to straighten her out.
Eggs: I wanna like him, I do. But he's too much under Maryann's spell...
Maryann: Yep, still hate the bitch. Not planning on changing my mind 'til shortly after Lucifer takes up iceskating. (NO ONE is sacrificing my Sam to ANYTHING, GOT THAT?!)
Sheriff Dearborn: Poor guy, he's really not equipped for this level of Weird Shit.
Terry: is awesome.
Arlene: is... better than I thought she was.
Hoyt: practically walks on water, as far as I'm concerned. YEP.
SAM: OH, HELL NO, MARYANN. Gorram bitch maenad whatever-the-fuck you are. On the other hand... OOOH Sam had a "The Fly" moment. HEE.
