A/N: As happens a lot with comment_fic prompts... this one is making the plotbunnies swarm.

The job seemed simple - all he had to do was fly to the UK, get to some place in Wales called ‘Torchwood’, retreive a very specific item and get it back to the States.

Unfortunately, the client seemed to have left out a few minor details - such as the fact that whatever ‘Torchwood’ was, it was more classified than Area 51, and the fact that someone else was after the item as well. Eliot was already feeling increasingly annoyed - so when he realised that the other person had three eyes and was seven feet tall and bright blue, it didn’t exactly help matters.

Just when he thought the situation couldn’t possibly get any worse, he was tailing the blue guy - hoping that he (she? or it?) would lead him straight to the goods, and saw him/her/it sneak into a fairly unremarkable building that was apparently a tourist office. He was considering going in when he heard loud shouts coming from inside. At that point he thought “screw it” and went in anyway. What he found was the blue guy holding what, from the design, could only be a gun, which he/she/it was pointing at a very-much-human guy in a suit, who was standing behind a desk and holding a handgun in a very professional-looking manner.

Eliot looked from the blue guy to the suit guy, and was about to ask something along the lines of “What the hell is going on here?”, when yet more people emerged. This time, it was a dark-haired woman and a guy in an old military greatcoat. Both of them held guns, as well, and Eliot was starting to feel left out. He did, however, notice that the woman, greatcoat guy and suit guy were all focused on blue guy, who snarled in a way that reminded Eliot of big cats, before promptly disappearing in a flash of light.

The three people holding guns all blinked in surprise, lowering their weapons. Then suit guy saw Eliot, who was trying to sneak out. “Wait… who are you?”

Several hours and much explaining later, the three people had exhaustively questioned Eliot about his client, and when it turned out that he didn’t know anything about them, they decided he was probably safe. They’d actually got to the point of releasing him, when he stopped them and flat-out asked them what exactly ‘Torchwood’ was.

That got a grin from the guy in the greatcoat - who’d introduced himself as Jack Harkness, an eyeroll from suit guy (Ianto, apparently) and a look of surprise from the woman (Gwen). Sensing that he wasn’t being taken seriously, Eliot took them by surprise and grabbed both Gwen and the nearest thing he could that looked like a weapon, intending to threaten her to get information out of the others.

It would have worked if what he’d grabbed hadn’t turned out to be some sort of remote control, which caused all the lights to go off when he grabbed it. Grudgingly he released Gwen and they got everything back on. When things seemed to have been fixed, they sat him down and explained their job to him - telling him about aliens and something called the Rift. They explained that the blue guy had been an alien bounty hunter, and that the item he’d been after (that Eliot was also after) had come from another planet. He hadn’t believed them at first, until they took him down to a lower level and showed him something that they called a Weevil, locked in a cage.

After they showed him the Weevil, Eliot turned to Jack, who seemed to be the one in charge, and said, “I want to see what you do. In the field.”
Jack looked at Eliot for a long minute, then nodded. “One night.”
“One night.”

That night, he joined Jack, Gwen and Ianto as they tracked down the alien bounty hunter and chased him across the city. Eventually they got him cornered in an empty warehouse, and the hunter pulled his weapon out. They tried to talk him down, but when the alien grabbed a hapless security guard who’d wandered too close, they all raised their own guns (even Eliot, who’d been handed one and summarily told to ‘be careful’ with it). The alien was using its hostage as a human shield, making it harder to get a clear shot. Eliot was still trying to find a shot when the back of the alien’s head exploded. Eliot stared at the now-deceased alien hunter, then turned to see that Ianto had fired the shot. "I'm gonna try real hard not to be insecure that the office assistant shoots better than I do."
Ianto looked at him and frowned, "I thought you didn't like guns”, he said, remembering a conversation in the SUV earlier.
"Doesn't mean I shouldn't be the better shot”, he said before walking out of the warehouse and back to the SUV.
