Lost 5x17 "The Incident" (Part Two)

Miles was right, dude. Well, maybe. I think.
You know why I think so?
Dr Chang's hand got crushed.
Remember the Swan film where Marvin CandleDr Chang had a prosthetic hand? I think we just saw how he got it.
So Miles was right. And James was right. What happened, happened, and you don't get to change things. (Well, unless you're Desmond. But the rules don't apply to him, no doubt for some Mystical Reason or other.)
Also. Jacob. Oh, I have a lot of thinking to do about Jacob and about whoever's running around pretending to be Locke (current thinking is that it involves Smokey). And I need to think about Jacob's List and about Richard and Ben and Widmore and Eloise...
I have got one idea already though. I can't really back it up with anything, but I suspect that the whole show, the whole story, all the machinations of Widmore and Hawking and Linus et al, is really just about Jacob and Currently Unnamed Beach Guy (from the beginning of 5x16), who I am going to call Esau until I find out who he really is. Or what he is.
Finally, I would like to know three things.
a) What the frak is the deal with Ilana?
b) What's Frank a "candidate" for? (actually I have an idea on that one, and I don't like it very much)
c) What the hell was that answer that Richard gave to "what lies in the shadow of the statue?". It sounded like Latin to me, but I'm not sure.
