“Dany! There you are, I’ve been looking for you everywhere….”

Dany resisted the urge to roll her eyes as her brother hurried towards her.

“I was in the library, I needed some books for a project. What did you want, Viserys?”

“I’ve got everything in place. I.. we are going to run this school, just like we used to back home. We’ll be like royalty to them.”

Dany sighed. Admittedly being able to walk down a corridor without some bitch of a cheerleader shoving her into a locker or knocking her books out of her hands would be nice, but Viserys’ schemes were beginning to get tiresome. She hadn’t even gone to the same school as him before, so she only had what he’d told her of ruling the place, and being able to do whatever he wanted. She wished, not for the first time, that she could go back to her old school. But that was an impossibility, ever since her family - everyone but Viserys - had been killed and the two of them had been shipped back East to live with their guardian, some distant relative who had asked them to call him Uncle Illyrio. So instead she smiled and said, “So what’s the plan?”

Viserys leaned close to her, his eyes gleaming, “Football,” he said. “The football team are gods in this place. We need to get them on our side, then no-one will dare touch us.”

“You hate football,” Dany pointed out.

“I’m willing to set that aside for the time being. We need them, Dany,” he said as he reached out to stroke her cheek. “And most importantly of all, we need that quarterback.”

Dany’s eyes widened. “Drogo?”

“Exactly, dear sister. That’s where you come in.”

Uh-oh, Dany thought. “What?”

“If I want Drogo to help me, I need to give him something in return. You go out with him, do… whatever he expects you to do, keep him on our side… and then he’ll give me my rightful place in this school: at the top.”

“What if Drogo doesn’t like me?”

Viserys grinned. “He will, my sweet little sister.”

“What if I don’t want to go out with him?”

The grin faded from Viserys’ face, and he gripped her arm tightly. “Our family do not stoop at the feet of others. We were born to rule, Dany, and rule is what I mean to do. You will go out with Drogo, sister.”

Dany swallowed. Her brother could be very scary when he got like this. “Y-yes, Viserys. Of course,” she said quickly, not looking at him.

“Good girl.”

“When were you planning to introduce us?”

“This afternoon, after class. Meet me outside the changing rooms,” he said just before he hurried off, leaving Dany standing there in the corridor, wondering what on Earth she was going to do now.

“Wait… you’re serious? Viserys actually wants you to do this?” Jon asked Dany as they walked to their Chemistry class.

“Uh-huh. All part of his plan to rule the world,” she said with a tiny smile.

“You’re not going to actually do it, are you?”

Dany sighed. “I don’t know, Jon, OK? Maybe Drogo isn’t so bad.”

Jon ran one hand through his hair. “Can you hear yourself? He’s the star quarterback. He’s pretty much always surrounded by those cheerleaders that you hate.”

“Maybe if I hang out with them, they won’t pick on me.”

Jon just looked at her, eyebrows raised, and Dany had to concede that she didn’t find that comforting either. She knew Jon was talking sense, and she knew he was just looking out for her - he was one of the few that she’d made friends with in this school - but she couldn’t shake the feeling that she should stick with her brother.

“It’ll be fine, Jon. We’ll have a few dates, then he’ll probably dump me for some other girl and then Viserys can come up with some other plan.”

“I hope you’re right, Dany. I really, really hope you’re right.”

After school finished for the day, Dany headed off to meet her brother, and Jon started the walk home. He hadn’t even got out of the parking lot when he heard shouting, and looked around to see a group of his classmates gathered in a circle, jeering and yelling at someone or something.

He hurried over to see what was going on. A couple of kids were fighting, probably over something stupid and insignificant. He looked up, but couldn’t see any adults around. He did, however, catch the gaze of someone else: his half-brother Robb, who had apparently heard the fight and come to check it out as well. One brief exchange of looks later, and he and Robb were both pushing through into the middle of the circle, each grabbing one of the fighters and pulling them apart.

“Get off me!” The kid in Jon’s grasp yelled. “Don’t you know who I am!”

“Calm down, kid. Whatever it is, it’s not that important.”

“He laughed at me! I had to teach him a lesson!”

“Right, of course.” Jon looked at the other kid, who was squirming weakly in Robb’s grasp. “Looks like you did, too. So you can calm the hell down, got it?”

The kid scowled, but stopped struggling. “He should have known better to mess with Joffrey Baratheon,” he said, before pulling away from Jon and running off.

The crowd of kids around them dissipated surprisingly fast, and Robb and Jon were left alone. “Baratheon…” Jon said thoughtfully, “Isn’t that the name of that Senator that Dad knows?”

“Yeah, it is. He’s coming for dinner tonight, remember?”

Jon did. The Stark house had been talking about nothing else for weeks. “Are you sure I’m invited?”

“You’re one of us, aren’t you?”

“Not according to your mom.”

“She doesn’t hate you, Jon,” Robb said wearily.

“No, I’m just a constant reminder to her that Dad had an affair. That’s so much better, don’t you think?”

Robb grinned. “You’ll win her over eventually.”

“Yeah, probably by leaving… um, Robb?”

“What?”

“Over there,” Jon pointed. “Isn’t that the Baratheon kid over there, talking to Sansa?”

“Oh, shit. We’re going to have to talk to her about this, aren’t we?”

“She’s not stupid, you know, we probably don’t need to.”

“I know she’s not stupid… she’s a romantic. That’s worse.”

Jon sighed, and wondered if maybe he’d be better off dealing with Dany’s family rather than his own. Then he remembered that he’d actually met Viserys, and decided that the Starks weren’t so bad after all.

Dany leant against the wall outside the boys’ locker room, waiting for her brother to appear. She wondered how this was going to go, and whether Drogo would like her.

The door of the locker room swung open and Drogo walked out. Dany straightened up and smiled. Up close like this, he was taller than she’d thought. She swallowed as she felt his eyes on her, appraising her silently.

Viserys appeared from behind him. “Ah, Dany. This is Drogo, I told you about him. Drogo, this is my sister.” Viserys looked hopefully at the quarterback, who looked at Dany once more, shrugged, and said, “She’s pretty.”

Viserys grinned, a manic look in his eyes. “So… would you like to go out with her?”

Drogo shrugged again. Dany could see the muscles moving under his shirt. “Sure,” he said as he started walking down the corridor. Viserys hurried after him, along with the other football players who trailed after their quarterback. Dany was left standing alone in the hall.

Oh my god…, she thought.

“You should probably try and keep up,” a voice said from behind her.

Dany turned around to see Jorah, a senior who lived next door to Uncle Illyrio. Jorah had been the first friend she’d made in this town. When she started at Westeros High, he’d promised to look after her. “Hey, Jorah. You know about the plan, then?”

“Viserys has been telling anyone who will listen so… yeah, I know.”

“You don’t approve?” Dany asked.

“I didn’t say that. I’m not sure I like his methods, though.”

“Why don’t you say something?”

Jorah looked at her. “To your brother? You know what he’s like. It’s safer this way.”

“He doesn’t handle rejection well.”

“Understatement of the century, princess.”

Dany blushed despite herself. “I said not to call me that.”

“But you are one,” he smiled.

Dany smiled back automatically, before she saw the look in his eyes. Did he… like her? He’d always been nice to her, and they were friends, but… no, surely there was some girl in his class that he liked. Not her. That would be too weird.
