Well. That was it.
Um. Spoilery stuff behind the cut.
So...
yeah, I cried. Quite a lot. (at the Quattro being murdered, of all things...)
I also experienced a powerful desire to PUNCH JIM KEATS REPEATEDLY IN THE FACE. Fortunately I have Gene to do that for me.
Also, um, yeah.. fuck you, Keats. I'm still not sure exactly what you are, except I know you're from Down There, and... just... fuck you, you twisted manipulative evil bastard.
Er.
Now I've got that out of my system...
#1. Did not see that coming with the tapes. At all. Really kinda adds to the the evilness of Keats.
#2. Um. So what did happen to Annie, exactly?
#3. Nelson!
#4. Oh, shit, I'm so conflicted right now. On the one hand... Ray and Chris and Shaz, they're at peace now, they're happy, and that's great but... on the other hand, I didn't want the team broken up...
#5. Death-dates. So far, Gene and Ray in 1953, Alex in 2008. Shaz... I'm thinking sometime in the '90s, because Wonderwall was playing and it was released in 1995. Chris... IDK, sometime before Shaz, I guess.
#6. Oh, god... most of the crying I mentioned? Yeah, that was for the Guv. For Gene Hunt, the dead nineteen year old copper with a head full of ideas about booze and women and Gary Cooper.
He's the Guv. He's our Guv, and he always will be.
#7. Ohhhh, the last scene. That was lovely. Sort of saying, "yeah, the last story's over, but there's a new one right here". The Guv's going to keep right on doing what he does best. I find that very comforting.
#8. That reflection of Sam in the window. Holy crap.
Though, there's the germ of an idea brewing about that...
Anyway. It's done. This fantastic, awesome, totally wonderful show is finished. We know the truth (or some of it at least). We got the best (IMO) possible ending.
And that, I think, is enough. The rest is silence.
(yes, gratuitous Shakespeare is gratuitous... I really don't care)
PS. Just because it's done, and just because this was such a fantastic ending... well, none of that means I'm not going to miss this show. Time for a Life on Mars marathon, I think...
PPS. Not that I watched the US LoM or anything... because these characters played by anyone other than these actors would just be wrong but... I'm glad the US LoM only lasted the one season. Because no way could it ever have matched up to this.
And if anyone even so much as thinks about making a US A2A, I am going to hurt them.
