oooookay, Chris episode this week, sort of. I mean, it did centre a bit more on Chris than the others, but to me it didn't feel like a "Chris episode" in the same way that last week was unequivocally about Ray or the week before was all about Shaz.
Whatever. Still good.
The interesting things this week were about Keats, I think. The Staffords were almost certainly being used as a parallel for Gene and Keats - Danny Stafford being the younger one, the one trying to take over from his father, who's not ready to back down yet.
Gene's (very tongue-in-cheek) "thank you" speech was interesting. It felt a little like he was making a stand - or a declaration of war, perhaps? (Also, the music playing in the background was Sinatra's "My Way" - which is a very Gene kind of song, don't you think?)
Yeah, from my perspective this episode was more about Gene telling Keats, more or less overtly, that he's not about to give up and/or play nicely.
A couple of things about Alex:
1. The buried-alive thing... I'm wondering if that has something to do with her 2010-life. The junkie told her "you're meant to be here", and that even though she "looked like a visitor", she'd stay. Maybe the dream/vision-sequence of her being buried alive was representing the fact that in 2010 she is "dead".
(Still not sure what MOLLY WAS HERE means, though...)
2. We (and Alex) saw the Dead Copper twice this week. Both times, the vision was accompanied by the very specific sound of crows.
The collective noun for crows is a murder. A murder of crows. Is someone/thing trying to tell Alex that someone was murdered? That the Dead Copper was murdered?
That could (possibly) fit with the theory that the Dead Copper is Gene's younger self. If the real nature of Gene Hunt and his world are central to the mystery of this show - and let's face it, Gene's true nature basically IS the mystery - then maybe what Alex needs to do is solve that murder.
EDIT: one more thing... the trailer for next week. A gentleman by the name of LITTON was featured heavily. And he seems to know what happened with Sam, or he thinks he does. Hmmmm...
