Sitting at my desk streaming some television. From outside, I hear a noise:
KCHAKK!!
I remember that sound!
I look out my window, and sure enough there are two cars in a head-on collision at the intersection. They hit each others' right front corners, so one of them was way in the wrong lane, and had to be on their way to the sidewalk. Both women; the one at fault looks maybe college age in a new model Volvo compact or something. She backs up, then peals away down the street at maximum warp, engine echoing after like the screams of a devil in pursuit. Remember kids: if you get in a fender bender in broad daylight at a busy intersection with pedestrians stopping and hollering at you, run. RUN RUN RUN. Because a dozen people won't simultaneously call 911 on their cells phones, and all of them, especially the car dealership office directly across the street, definitely won't be able to describe your vehicle to the motorcycle cop and give him your license plate number. I understand criminal charges really get your mind off insurance premiums n' shit.
Both vehicles looked to have only bumper/headlight damage, and the woman who stayed was uninjured.
Incidentally, last week around 2 AM I hear the sound of an engine idling outside, followed by the distant, alternating chirps of a police car, followed by the idling changing to rapid gear shifting rocketing across the building and away down the same street as today. I peer out the window in time to see police howl their sirens and go speeding after it... meanwhile a bicyclist ahead of them shifts onto the sidewalk, turns off all his lights, and pedals with the fury of a thousand suns.
