Digital Fortress by Dan Brown
It was somewhat of a relief to start reading this after the deep contempt I developed for the previous book. Dan Brown is, of coure, the author of The Da Vinci Code and several other thrillers, all of which I've read. (Except for this one.) (Well, I have, now.) It's a good old techno-thriller, full of technobabble, lionhearted good guys, cold-blooded killers, and, naturally, the one who appears to be good but is really bad and who is manipulating the situation from the get-go. Anyhoo, this is a somewhat ridiculous but fun look at the NSA and the code-breakers who work there. What will happen when the massive and secret ultimate code-breaking machine goes up against the unbreakable code put on the Internet by a disgruntled former employee? Hijinks, no doubt.
