Raven had her phone on vibrate so no notifications would disturb Karina. The girl was deeply asleep, but Raven didn't want to take chances.

Probably just if I am a good team player and get along well with others. How long you've known me and would I be a good fit for them.

Momoko rolled her eyes. The manager who had taken her application had been such a snob.

I applied for a job in their toy department so probably nothing too deep.

In response to that, Raven turned her phone around to take a picture of herself, with her best pouty lips and sad eyes. She sent the picture -- which also caught a bit of Karina snuggled against her -- on to Momoko.

Momoko blinked a moment as she took a second glance at the image.

Is that Kayla sleeping with you?

No way had Kayla gotten that big, right?!? Had it been THAT long?

No, that is Karina. Raven used the camera to take a better picture of the sleeping girl, making sure the flash was off so she didn't inadvertently wake her up with it.

She is from one of the orphanages. She is going to be staying with me for awhile.

She is physically well, but traumatized by the war. Raven looked down at Karina and did a quick check to make certain her dreams were still peaceful. She would've felt it if a nightmare tried to intrude, but she was concerned enough to double-check.

She does not speak. Whatever happened to her has scarred her deeply, and I wish to help her.

Lots of kids were affected by the War. It really made Momoko's heart ache that they had to suffer the consequences of the adults' actions.

She had to have been really little! Do you know where she's from?

Maybe Momoko had been there!

I named her Karina. She seems to like it well enough. But her true name and whatever happened to her is locked away inside her.

You can probably guess why I have taken a special interest in her.

Because she totally didn't have any experience with anything similar, really.
