Room 509 to the 616 and back again, Saturday afternoon

Nov 19, 2011 14:00

Raven hadn't been feeling well for the past few days, which was extremely unusual for her. She'd even missed classes that week so she could stay to her room and rest, trying to figure out why she was so tired. Her emotions had been running very high, she reasoned, so that could very well be the source of feeling drained.

After she and Karla were done talking and were ready to go, Raven teleported them both to Jono's world, just outside the X-Men's mansion. For some reason it took more conscious effort for her to cross dimensions, and she felt lightheaded and dizzy once they appeared. She blamed it on feeling so tired and pushed it from her mind; there were more important things to focus on.

Like the giant robots standing around the mansion. Raven looked up with not a small amount of alarm. "Those were not here the last time we were," she said.

"Whoa, you okay?" Karla asked, feeling Raven wobbling a little on her arm. Not that she was feeling all that great, either. Teleporting was never easy on her stomach, but this trip had been worse than usual. Interdimensional turbulence?

Though a moment of queasiness and concern for Raven weren't enough to keep her attention away from the robots. "I'm not liking the look of them," she said, a shield sparkling to life around the both of them. "I've got a bad feeling about this."

She'd pay her trademark fee to the Skywalkers later.

"I am fine," Raven assured her. "I have just been tired." Something about the netherverse seemed off, however, but she didn't want to voice that concern yet. It might have just been her imagination, but it seemed...paler as they'd passed through, the purples and reds and blues not as vivid as they had been.

She did cling to Karla, though, and not just for the shield. "As do I," she said, looking around and spotting the tents and the new wall around the property. "I am not sensing malice, however." Not that she could sense anything from the robots.

"We should find someone who might know us, so they know we are not a threat," she said.

Speak of the devil, get a Leech, instead. After all, life was boring after a while in the tent city that had been established for the 198 in the wake of M-Day. Sure, there had been some excitement a few weeks back, and Leech had been, unfortunately, in the thick of it. But if there was one thing Leech could do well, it was persevere!

It was just that, without Artie around and after what had happened to Mr. M, Leech was finding perseverance to be a pretty lonely hobby, these days.

And so, when he spotted a familiar face standing and looking lost on the grounds to Xavier's, naturally he was going to run over to say hello.

"Miss Jono's Girlfriend! Leech not see you since forever!"

He had a good memory for nice people.

So did Karla, even if the people she remembered happened to belong to a different universe entirely.

"Leech!" she said, delighted to see the little boy. "Here's a happy surprise. Is Artie here, too?"

Only then did she remember the boy she'd met had been Bobby's Leech, not Jono's. "Hi, I'm Karla. I'm a friend of Miss Raven and Jono's. I'm very glad to see you."

"Leech!" Raven exclaimed with a delighted smile, relieved to see someone she knew. Especially someone she knew who could in no way ignite her anger.

She held her arms out for a hug. "It is very good to see you again," she said. "I am glad to find you safe and well."

A hug! Leech had not had a hug in a long time, now! Most of the people in the tents did not like to touch Leech much, because of his powers.

Lonely, lonely tents.

So, when the hug was offered, he was more than happy to run over to accept it.

"Leech happy to see Miss Jono's Girlfriend and meet Miss Karla!" He informed the both of them, hanging on to Raven extra-tight. He hadn't seen her since before everyone had left the Academy, when she'd visit Jono now and then. It had been a while, since. "Jono come too?"

He... hadn't really recognized him, in Neverland. A full face and a terrifying Weapon X attitude seemed to make all the difference. And anyhow, he'd been a little preoccupied with escaping, at the time.

Karla winced at the question and shook her head. "Jono is back at home, with his kitty," she explained, since she figured she was a little better at shading the truth than 'Miss Jono's Girlfriend' might be. "At the same island he lived on before, when we first became friends. We decided we'd be helpful girls and come get Jono's stuff for him."

Which, you know, was true! Ish! It just happened to ignore all of the reasons Jono might have for staying on the island and not coming back himself. La.

"But Miss Karla is very happy to meet you, too," she added. "And if you're not out of hugs yet, I wouldn't mind one."

"He could not come with us, but he is the reason we are here," Raven said, straightening up to give Leech a chance to accept Karla's hug as well. "He left many things here, and we were hoping to be able to collect them for him. But perhaps he will be able to visit another time, or you could come visit him in Fandom. I am certain he would like to see you."

She knew Jono had always been fond of Leech, and Artie as well, and had read them comic books back at the Academy. She didn't know how Leech had been used in Neverland, however, and she hoped Leech wouldn't be frightened by Jono's new Apocalypsed face.

"Leech like that idea," he decided, giving Raven one more squish before moving on to hug Karla, too. He'd never met her before, but she seemed to know Artie, and so that automatically made her okay in his books. "Maybe Jono read to Leech? Was more Ratguy left."

And a hug for the pretty blonde lady!

"Artie not here," he added, quietly, just for her since she'd asked. "Leech not find him after M-Day."

M-Day. Things were still... a bit of a mess. He was worried, to say the least.

Leech got an extra tight hug when Karla heard that last. "There's a whole comic book store on the island," she mentioned. You know, casually. "If you did ever manage to come and visit, I bet there are more comics than just Ratman he could read to you."

She was just saying, la.

M-Day. Jono hadn't mentioned the words to her, but it was what she had feared, since that was what Elizabeth had told them. Mutants losing their powers all over the world. Artie's had been how he communicated in images. Had he lost his powers as well? Was he still pink and mute, or would he look like a normal boy? But losing his own powers hadn't given Jono his chest and jaw back, so she feared the worst.

"He is not here, in these tents?" she said, keeping the fear from her voice. "Who are all these people? And are those robots for your protection?" She looked up at the Sentinels; at least they weren't attacking.

"Artie will be found, I am sure of it," she said to Leech, giving him a reassuring smile.

Leech hesitated for a moment before pulling back from the hug (but ah, hugging!) and waving a hand at the tents.

"Them mutants," he informed her, pointing up at a banner that had 198 written on it as though that explained everything. "That O*N*E. Sentinels."

Which made it all so clear. Totally.

"Why Miss Jono's Girlfriend come? You mutants too? Leech can find tent, if you need."

"Sentinels?" Karla asked, confused. "I thought--"

Genosha. Hadn't they been part of the annihilation of Genosha? She shut her mouth on the rest of that, not wanting to mention it in front of Leech.

"We don't need a tent," she assured him. "We're not staying long. But you know what I think we do need?" She exchanged a grin with Raven. "A guide. Someone who knows his way around this place."

"Do you know where they might have put Jono's belongings?" Raven asked Leech hopefully. "His guitars and other personal items? Someplace they may have stored them after he...went away?"

If they'd thrown them out, not even Leech's presence would be able to hold back her anger. Why would they have bothered to keep any of the items if they hadn't even tried to find him? Hopefully Wolverine would have prevented that.

"If he had any comic books here, then you may keep those," she added. "I am certain he would wish you to have them."

Oh, Raven. Raven, Raven. You just made Leech into the happiest little green kid to ever camp underneath a bunch of piloted Sentinels.

"Leech can find them! Leech go looking in mansion plenty of times!" Which was true... ish. Leech had a habit of wandering about when he was bored, and Miss Emma was nice enough to let him keep wandering, so long as he wasn't getting himself into trouble while he was at it. He grabbed for the hand closest to him, Karla's, and then started pretty much started dragging her toward the front door, heedless of the giant robots stationed between here and there.
