Room 509, Wednesday Afternoon

Feb 03, 2010 13:35

Raven had hated missing class on Tuesday, but she decided she should skip her Wednesday class as well. She was physically well, but emotionally she was still upset, both about having allowed Max to get that close to her and for having to be the one to tell Karla and 'Dite what had happened. At least she had been allowed to go home the night ( Read more... )

Tahiri didn't actually know what had happened. The last thing she remembered up until an hour ago had been leaving her Concepts of Justice class yesterday afternoon, and then nothing until she was emerging from the Preserve, arms badly scratched up for reasons she didn't care to contemplate too much. This had been happening more and more often, and she was pretty much sick of it by now.

She was not nearly as sure as she wanted to be, but, showered and changed and in slightly better shape thanks to a quick healing trance, she headed down the hall from her room to Raven's and knocked on the door.

"It's Tahiri," she called out softly.

"Tahiri, please, come in," Raven said, already moving to open the door. She gave her friend a smile. "I have not spoken to you in some time, how are you?"

"Not great," Tahiri began, but a good look at Raven made her wince and shake her head. "And my timing sucks void, doesn't it? You don't look so great either."

"No, it is all right," Raven assured her. "I am all right. I was injured Monday night, but I am well now."

Hello, understatement.

Tahiri let out a small, yet amazingly inelegant, snort. "That's like me saying I'm just fine. I actually came to ask for your help with something, but . . ."

"No, please, tell me," Raven said, perking up. Helping others got her mind off her own issues, so she was content to offer what assistance she could. "You know I would be very pleased to help you."

Tahiri nodded and slipped into the room, shutting the door behind her. "You remember what happened a few months ago," she said, taking a deep breath. "In the salle. When I . . . Riina . . ."

She clenched her jaw and shook her head. "When we attacked you and Karla."

"I remember," Raven said. She sat back down on her bed and scooted over to make room for Tahiri. "Has it happened again?"

Tahiri dropped onto the end of the bed and drew her knees up to her chest, frowning slightly at how badly frayed (and dirty, but it wasn't as if either thing could be helped) the trouser cuffs on this jumpsuit were. What a nice little metaphor for how she felt . . . and probably looked. A half-hour healing trance didn't do much to make her look well-rested.

"It happens all the time now. Sometimes just hours, sometimes it's days. And I'm sick of it. I know what we need to do, and I'm ready to do it, and . . ." She bit her lip, then looked up at Raven. "I'd like you to be there."

"Then I will be there," Raven said without any hesitation. "I will do anything in my power to make you well." She reached out a hand to lay it on Tahiri's arm. "I am not glad this has to be done," she said, "but I am happy that you are ready for it."

It was still a surprise, sometimes, that people who'd seen what she was like when Riina was in control could touch her without being afraid, and Tahiri had to smile.

And just like that, a little of the tension melted away.

"I've been ready for a long time, or at least I think I have, mentally," she admitted. "I think it was just a matter of not being scared any more."

"You have many people here who care for you and will help you," Raven said. "You do not need to be afraid. You are strong and brave, and you will succeed in this." She gave Tahiri's arm a light squeeze. "What must we do? Who else do you need? Ben?"

"As if you could keep him away?" Tahiri asked with a strained laugh. "Definitely. And Jaina." That was pretty much a given. For some reason Tahiri couldn't think of doing this at all without Jaina.

"And Karla, of course."

"What about Professor Skywalker?" Raven asked. "Would not he be able to help as well?"

"Probably, but . . ." Tahiri shrugged. "It might be a little weird with him and Ben both there."

"Is there anything I can do to help you prepare?" Raven asked. She was totally going to throw herself into this to forget what had happened to her.
