Background Info

(If you are already familiar with the Teen Titans or Raven, please note I'm going off the canon from the 1980-1996 comics. I understand there's been a reboot of sorts within the past few years (A reboot? In my comics? It's more common than you think), but I have not followed it, nor am I familiar with the cartoon.)

Raven is the half-breed daughter of the demon Trigon the Terrible and her human mother, Angela Roth, a teenage girl who was taken in by an evil cult that was trying to bring Satan to Earth. (I DO NOT HAVE A TYPE OMG SHUT UP.) They intended her to be Satan's bride, though it was Trigon who answered their call. He appeared to Angela as a handsome man and whisked her away to his dimension, where he made her his wife and impregnated her. Once Angela had conceived, he showed her his true form and cast her back to Earth.

Angela became suicidal, but before she could end her life, a pacifist cult from another dimension, Azarath, rescued her and took her in. They renamed her Arella ("The Messenger Angel") and helped her through her pregnancy and the birth of her daughter, whom she named Raven.

Those of Azarath were not just acting charitably -- they wanted to teach Raven how to control her emotions and the evil side of her nature, although the magistrate of Azarath did attempt to cast baby Raven into Limbo before he was destroyed. By controlling her emotions, Raven would be able to keep Trigon's influence in check, or so they believed. She was also taught the powers of empathic healing, astral projection, and teleportation, and of course, Azarath's pacifist ways.

When Raven was thirteen, she began to be plagued by dreams of her demonic heritage. She defied her teachers and projected herself into Trigon's dimension to seek him out. Confronted by her father and what he was, Raven manifested her soul-self for the first time and tried to use it to ward Trigon away. Unfortunately, he instilled some (more) of his essence into her soul-self and then let her go, promising to return for her when she was an adult.

Raven felt Trigon's evil growing within her over the next few years, and not wanting to bring harm to her home, she fled Azarath and came to Earth. She approached the Justice League for help, but Zatanna sensed her demonic heritage, and they rejected her. In canon, she went on to form the Titans so that she would have a band of heroes to stop Trigon should he appear once more; for Fandom High purposes, she wants to learn to live among humans and hide from Trigon. She wants to be a normal girl, not a demon-spawn herald of the apocalypse (HI SAM!). Trouble is, she doesn't have a clue how to do it.

First stop: Fandom High. She's taken the name Rachel Roth in an attempt to fit in better.

Description

Raven is a slender young woman with long black hair and blue eyes. She is very shy and quiet and really has no idea how to deal with people very well. She's studied Earth, so she's not completely clueless about things, but most pop culture references will go right over her head, and she'll be prone to take things literally and will tend to be naive. She struggles to hide all her emotions, but she isn't always successful.

She has a pair of gold rings that she has worn since she was 13, a pair of gold earrings that seem to glow faintly, and a small red jewel in the center of her forehead. This "chakra" helps her control her dark side. She also has a small tattoo of a raven on the small of her back.

Powers

Raven is primarily an empath. She can feel the emotions of others and even absorb them -- she can ease sorrow or anger, or go so far as to take emotions away completely, rendering the person numb. She can heal people by absorbing their pain. The emotions/injuries briefly affect Raven as she takes them into herself (so she wouldn't, for example, be able to do a massive battlefield healing), but eventually she can expel them. She does her best to shield herself from others emotions to keep them from affecting her, for fear of losing control.

She can also make other people feel emotions, both positive and negative. She can make someone believe they are in love with her or another, or she can overwhelm them with sadness or fear. She also has some small ability to project illusions into a person's mind. Of course, no emotional/mental power would be used on another player without his or her permission! Unless anyone has an objection, I will have her pick up on emotions explicitly stated in the text in public areas ("he said angrily" or "she said sadly" and the like). This could extend to room posts if she's passing by and the post is open. Anything beyond that will be discussed with the player beforehand.

Raven can be overwhelmed by the emotions of others, particular if they are very strong. Too much can cause her physical pain. During tense situations she sometimes loses control and briefly seems darker and more violent, but she quickly reasserts herself to stop Trigon from gaining the upper hand. This is usually followed by a brief period of hiding. And emo. I mean meditation.

Raven can astral project, manifesting her "soul-self." It takes the form of a giant, shadowy raven. She can meditate and send her soul-self to travel elsewhere with her consciousness, use it to snare a foe and show them their deepest fears or simply to knock them out, or wrap it around herself and others to transport them to another dimension. It can also function as a kind of shield and absorb physical attacks, sending any objects that hit it to some nebulous elsewhere. Her soul-self cannot take that kind of abuse for very long, however.

Anyone with demony sensing abilities, ping me and we'll talk. :)
