So I go to check my facebook and within three posts of each other, I have two "friends" spouting religious nonsense. I have my crazy cousin Carol, who gave up her life in the United States to be a missionary in Paraguay. She consistently asks her immediate family for donations, not for Paraguay, mind you, but for HER, so that she and her husband can have a "salary" while they do God's work. More power to her, that's cool, do your own thing, you won't get a dime from me.
But I don't need you to be on Facebook telling all your friends that God has saved you from a computer virus, and that the devil caused your car and air conditioner to break down, but not to worry, because God will find a way to triumph in her life.
Had it been just that, I woulda just rolled my eyes and moved on. But like I said, two more posts, and an old acquaintance of mine is copy pasta'ing some ridiculous website's rhetoric that claims they CAN PROVE God does not exist, and THEREFORE, if you support the bible, you support slavery, racism, blah blahblabhah. Um, no. I don't know when that particular friend decided to jump off the liberal deep end, but that is absolute stupidity. Moreso than crazy cousin Carol, because he actually assumes you will read and consider these shock value viewpoints.
My point is this: FACEBOOK is not your soap box. It's not the first place you should go when you decide you want to impart your views upon your inner and outer circles, especially not religious ones. Let's face it: At this age, is ANYTHING that ANYONE tells you going to shake your faith, or lack thereof? No. You're set. You made up your mind in your formative years, and some jackass website or nonsense spouting cousin ON FACEBOOK is never going to trip you up (or run around and desert you). "Gee, maybe I DO support slavery!" Yeah right.
Sure, some people looking for answers or that have life changing experiences have what they may refer to as moments of clarity. But I can say with 99% certainty, that those moments of clarity will never come from some zealot's facebook post.
...So why bother polluting your friends with it?
