pee question

Yeah I know, nice subject, but hey we're athletes and as such nutrition and the monitoring of such is key.

I'm always good about watching my hydration and especially leading up to a race or big workout. Looking for that light straw color to know i'm on track. So whats going on after a big race or workout when I see my pee is dark yellow?. Does that just mean Ive been doing everything right and taking in nutrition/gels and they have affected my pee, or is this a sign that i haven't been able to take in enough fluids on the workout? It sounds like lack of fluids, but maybe its not too big a deal since its pretty much impossible to always stay completely hydrated in a race or hard workout of more than 2 or 3 hours.
