SGA Fanart: Cover Art for "Clipped" (written by michelel72) Artist: tridget Medium: Digital Art Genre: Gen Rating: T Warning: Depiction of injury (aftermath of torture)
Wow. This is gorgeous. Love John's wings, the faded tone makes them look that much more majestic and not just 'attached'. I also think the civilian clothes work really well. The details to Rodney's injury is tragic, but beautifully done, the muted color scheme is perfect, not glorifying, but subdued for the subject matter.
Thanks for the feedback. It's nice to hear that the effects I was going for came across. Since the story begins on a semi-material plane, with the characters being creatures of the light, I wanted the wings to have that ethereal, other-worldly look and to match the lyrical feel of the writing.
****Story spoiler ahead***
At the end of the story, on the material plane, what remained was a ghostly afterimage of the wings. So I wanted the wings to look ephemeral rather than look like solid attachments.
In an earlier part of the creation of this piece of art, there was more realism to Rodney's wound, with blood soaking what was left of his shirt, and pooling on the ground. However, that seemed to pull away from capturing the real tone of the story which overall was much more tragic and heroic than it was horrific. So, I opted for less graphic depictions (although still graphic enough) and a softer look to the whole picture.
Trying to capture these concepts in images is an interesting and fun process.

Love the art with the muted colours and the barely there wings.
