SGA Ficlet: That Thing on the East Pier

Oct 01, 2010 22:00

I was doing a bit of a file tidy-up this evening and I found a ficlet that I'd meant to post several months ago. In my story "Affiliations," which was about the fallout from Sheppard's time with the Sekkari in "Remnants,", there was a reference to a 'thing' on the east pier that had occurred earlier in the week - before Sheppard realized he wasn' ( Read more... )

Nicely done :D Funny, but in an ironic, dark kind of way. This story made me grin, while at the same time made me want to hug poor John. Yay for Lorne and Ronon being there :D

Thank you. One of those quirky little tales that got stuck in my head. I do like the idea of Lorne and Ronon being there.

Thank you. Sort of comical and tragic at the same time. Yeah, a hug would have been needed.

Aww, I love stories where the others help Sheppard out.

Me, too. I adore the idea of them always being there in the background.

Nice one, thanks. Love the usual quiet way Ronon and Lorne behave and I always love watching someone take care of John, especially when he doesn't even realise they're doing it.
He spends his life looking after people, it's so nice to see it being returned. And here, he's suffered more that he realised and isn't coping too well but his friends have got his back.

Thank you. I imagine Sheppard needs them as much as Atlantis needs Sheppard.

Excellent...........I wondered when it all came together how well he would
be able to handle the fallout and there is always fallout even for the strongest of individuals.
Hugs all around.........and so glad you included Ronon and Lorne, my other two loves.

Thanks. Even heroes suffer fallout and this little tale and the earlier one, "Affiliations," to which this leads up really came from the idea that it is part of the heroism rather than a weakness.

Even heroes suffer fallout

Of course they do. It is ludicrous to think otherwise.
There is no weakness involved, but trouble is many see it that way
e.g. someone told me Sheppard would never have a problem with PTSD.
He lives with it daily e.g. in Phantoms........

Perhaps people are less aware of the possible range of severity of symptoms associated with PTSD. Sheppard's experiences put him at risk for PTSD and while his character has many strengths he does not display many of the personal resilience factors that reduce the incidence of the disorder. It is probably not well-understood that seeing him as a candidate for PTSD does not mean seeing him as someone ready to snap or go off the deep end. It means he quite possibly lives and works with chronic PTSD the way many people with various other chronic physical or mental health problems live out their daily lives. (IMHO)
