So I was thinking, "I should rec A Madness of Angels and The Midnight Mayor to my f-list. Because I'm fairly certain no one on my f-list has read those books and they SHOULD because there amazing." And then I thought, "I wonder if my f-list has these thoughts about one of the books they read."
So, as though I didn't ask for recs a week ago (it was a week and a half!), I'm trading--rec for rec.
First, please sit through my rec of A Madness of Angels and The Midnight Mayor by Kate Griffin. Please forgive the flailiness--(a) I'm tired and (b) I LOVE THESE BOOKS.
THESE BOOKS ARE AMAZING. I haven't finished Midnight Mayor but I love it so far and I love Madness of Angels. THIS is my new definition of urban fantasy. Instead of taking old-time magic and putting it in new-time places--no. Magic adapts because it is JUST THAT EPIC. So you get urban sorcerers. I am not kidding. Sorcerers who make barbed wire grow instead of trees. Creatures made of litter, fairies with cellophane wings. Everything magical evolves to move on with life. And the best sorcerer is Matthew Swift, back from the dead after two years--I won't say how, because I was spoiled for it and I wish I hadn't been. He basically goes on an epic quest to take down a magical mafia. That's pretty much what it boils down to. Only at the head of the magical mafia is his old teacher, who is now teaching his old student. Also, there's a dragon. And it takes place in London, so the geography is nice to know, but not necessary because Kate Griffin is amazing at description. I've never been to London, know only as much as I've learned from TV, and I get these books. They are that awesome.
NOW FOR THE NEXT PART.
Pretend I will only read one book this year. (I'm in school; this isn't a big leap.) Now pick your all-time favorite book, or the book you think deserves more fans--basically the book that you think should be that one book--and tell me why I should read it.
(And I haven't forgotten the others! I've started Sabriel and gotten others out of the library. Most of them are either out or requested, which was probably a bad idea but I am known for overloading on books I won't have time to read. Hence this entry.)
