I'm still not sure how I got sucked into Transformers, seeing as I dislike robot movies and I'm not overly excited about vehicles. I'm weird like that :p.
I have to say I found myself in very similar situation as dinogrrl when I got into Tf's, it seemed very much 'not my thing', and yet, perversely, it totally was of course. Freaky.
It so much that I've ever disliked robot films in particular, it was just that I've always felt a bit queasy about scifi in general, and my reason for this is very similar to singealiene's apparent pet peeve: there's really nothing that makes me roll my eyes like a "robots became sentient and decided to overthrow their masters" narrative
I just find it completely implausible that 'super aliens hell bent on cold warfare only' or 'emotional & brave!Humanz saving teh whole World with their LUV' thing. Sorry for the netspeak, but I just find it that aggravating. It's the whole 'sensible logical' vs. 'erratic emotional' thing: it is a great big illusion to try to separate the two and create a sensible creature/character, when the two don't actually contradict each other (yes, I think this in spite of the fact that I actually fangirl both Sherlock Holmes AND Spock..). It's just pure silliness to not take to account all the inherent patheticness and wonderfulness and quirckiness and humour that do exist in creatures and believe you've created credible 3-dimensional race of alien beings. But, of course I do like scifi anyway.. :P
And oh, the star wars robot 3PO was such a favourite of mine, the poor thing.
Oh, and thanks for that Wall-E trailer, hadn't heard of it before and I love. God damn it's adorable!
