I'm probably the odd one out here in that I usually detest robot movies/shows/stories/whatever (or even just robots IN movies or whatever) :B. I usually avoid them; for example, I still haven't seen Iron Giant, nor do I ever plan to. Generally speaking, mecha animes/mangas make my skin crawl. I'll probably see Wall-E eventually because it does look cute, and it's Pixar. I'm still not sure how I got sucked into Transformers, seeing as I dislike robot movies and I'm not overly excited about vehicles. I'm weird like that :p.
hmm...favorite movie robots? Pretty much any of the Star Wars (original trilogy) droids. I love 'em to death. I suppose HAL doesn't technically count XD. But he's up there in my list of 'favorite machines' (we named our first family computer HAL. Bad idea). Data is pretty cool, I'll admit. Not sure I liked the robots in A.I., but the premise of it was interesting. ...okay, I'll admit it, I liked the Power Ranger zords back in the day.
For specific robots I don't like...Asimov robots. I don't know why. I'm just not fond of that school of thinking. The I, Robot stories were both boring and confusing to me, and I'm still not sure if it was the stories themselves or Asimov's lack of an ability to write an engaging story.
You just can't do cultural things with animated movies. Because, you know, animated movies are for kids and kids won't get it, and their parents will be mad :p.
Oh, the I, Robot movie was plenty fun :}. It had enough nonsense to be entertaining (yeah, Will Smith, can't go wrong with him). I still haven't seen the Terminator movies either, or the Matrix movies beyond about half of the first one. >> Man I'm behind the times.

I have to say I found myself in very similar situation as dinogrrl when I got into Tf's, it seemed very much 'not my thing', and yet, perversely, it totally was of course. Freaky.
It so much that I've ever disliked robot films in particular, it was just that I've always felt a bit queasy about scifi in general, and my reason for this is very similar to singealiene's apparent pet peeve: there's really nothing that makes me roll my eyes like a "robots became sentient and decided to overthrow their masters" narrative
I just find it completely implausible that 'super aliens hell bent on cold warfare only' or 'emotional & brave!Humanz saving teh whole World with their LUV' thing. Sorry for the netspeak, but I just find it that aggravating. It's the whole 'sensible logical' vs. 'erratic emotional' thing: it is a great big illusion to try to separate the two and create a sensible creature/character, when the two don't actually contradict each other (yes, I think this in spite of the fact that I actually fangirl both Sherlock Holmes AND Spock..). It's just pure silliness to not take to account all the inherent patheticness and wonderfulness and quirckiness and humour that do exist in creatures and believe you've created credible 3-dimensional race of alien beings. But, of course I do like scifi anyway.. :P
And oh, the star wars robot 3PO was such a favourite of mine, the poor thing.
Oh, and thanks for that Wall-E trailer, hadn't heard of it before and I love. God damn it's adorable!
