11th Annual Black Diaspora Film Festival- is an integral part of the program
tradition at the Hayti Heritage Center, in Durham. The festival’s mission is to
celebrate African American cinema and the African cultural Diaspora, by
highlighting established and emerging filmmakers and films showcasing the
contributions and uniqueness of the Black artistic tradition in film. Our film
selection embodies the richness of Black culture while recognizing universal
themes and the similarities that exist among all cultures. This year’s theme:
“Saluting Black Icons In Film”, Sidney Pointier, Harry Belafonte, Lena Horn,
Ruby Dee, Ossie Davis, Bill Duke, Ben Vereen, Pam Grier, Danny Glover, Angela
Basset, Morgan Freeman, and more! An entire day has been allotted to share works
from Independent Filmmakers with a panel discussion and reception to meet these
aspiring artists.
All films and events related to the Black Diaspora Film Festival are FREE and
open to the public.
