from the 480 to the 408

I headed back to San Jose last Friday night for a friend's birthday. Each time I'm at the airport I always ponder whether someone's visiting the place of their destination or whether it's their home. The midwesterners are easy to spot and so are the Southern Californians ... everyone else kind of blends, as do I. The only time I don't blend at the airport is when I'm in Iowa ... I can't blend anywhere in Iowa.

When I got in we immediately headed to the office party. I had to change in the bathroom, which meant that I had to carry the large tote bag containing my clothes for the remainder of the night. As I got drunker, said tote bag basically turned into a large fluffy mallet suspended from my shoulders, and I'm thankful no one kicked my ass after experiencing repeated, involuntary pummeling with said mallet.

But at first, I was the only sober one. This lasted a generous 90 minutes. Then I got really drunk and embarassed myself. Tried to attack a security guard when his back was turned and embarassed myself. Chased and kicked a car and embarassed myself. I've fallen in the grass and I can't get up and I've embarassed myself.

But times are good regardless when you're with those you love and those you can trust and those who understand you because they know you and they accept you.

I'm looking for a job in Orange County. I'm excited and nervous and scared. I think my New Year's resolution will be to get over my fear of waves. I'm also going to check out a Buddhist temple this week that is not too far from where I live. Although neither of my parents are religious, I have Buddhists and Christians in my family. I'd like to learn more about their faith.
