Mount Tam | August 2008

When Luke approached the cave inside Mount Tam he could hear telekhines bustling about, trying to make last minute preparations for Kronos' arrival. Backbiter was being broken down and being reformed to resemble a scythe, Kronos' weapon of choice. When Luke entered the cave and stepped into the light, however, they stopped work immediately and bowed.

"Master Luke, everything is ready," a telekhine said. "Do you have the last demigod?"

Luke nodded. "He is on his way. I'll need a few of you to leave now to meet up with him to make sure he doesn't lose his way."

A few telekhines bowed again and left the cave to do just that. Luke took the chance to view his surroundings. The cave had hooked up to a mausoleum under the palace on Mount Tam. The floors were a glossy black mahogany and all around the room were black marble statues of Titans that ruled before the gods. There was a dais at the end of the room and on it was the sarcophagus of Kronos.

The telekhine that had spoken to Luke remained and was looking at Luke curiously. "Are you ready, sir? You can begin the process without the demigod here."

"Oh." Luke swallowed nervously before nodding at the telekhine. "Yes, we can start now."

There was really no use in lingering. Might as well get it over with. He had already made his goodbyes and while he didn't think he'd ever be truly okay with this, he was as ready as he was gonna be.

He walked towards the dais and stepped up so he was level with the golden coffin. Ancient Greek letters had been carved out of the gold that read: KRONOS, THE LORD OF TIME.

Luke swallowed again and pushed open the lid of the coffin. He didn't take it completely off; just left a space big enough for him to get into. It looked like there was nothing inside but Luke knew that was a lie. Kronos was in there, Luke could feel his power thrumming in the darkness of the coffin. With one last look at the exit to the cave, Luke sighed and climbed into the coffin and nodded at the telekhine to close the lid over him.

As soon as the lid was in place, Luke felt like there were hands around his throat, choking him. His immediate reaction to fight back did little to help his situation since there was nothing for him to grab onto. Tears sprang to his eyes as he felt his breath get shorter and he became more and more lightheaded. He knew he couldn't die, not like this, but the fear of suffocation was taking precedence to any logical part of his brain.

Eventually the force strangling him became too much and Luke lost consciousness, his head slamming against the gold bottom of the sarcophagus when he passed out.
