An interesting Socratic discussion came up on Austin's 94.7 radio station. Should models have a certain BMI to be able to model? In other words, should government interfere with the media and halt the display of a sickly body image, that being too skinny is a hazardous influence to the American teenager?
If the FDA and the government are cracking down on obesity by taxing junk food and implementing programs to raise health education and awareness, would it make sense that they should be involved with the media about anorexia and bulimia? If so, would that be considered a violation of the Bill of Rights concerning censorship on freedom of expression?
Would it be socialism?
I see both sides of the issue. What do you think?
Should Angelina Jolie be able to act anymore if she is too skinny? If that follows through, then the super-plus actors shouldn't either to even out the playing field.
How can we promote a healthy body image that is associated with fitness itself?
Its a catch 22.
I honestly don't really care about someone's BMI. Beauty goes all the way around, in the eye of the beholder. But when it comes to the media, these are sensitive topics.
