This is the fourth Deer Tick show that I've gone to.
feckalyn got me hooked early in our relationship. The band was created and is driven by the lead singer John McCauley. There's a lot of talent and passion there. If he could focus just a little bit more they're going to be huge.
Lawrence, Kansas is about an hour away. So the show has to be good/interesting for us to go there. It's definitely a commitment. The Granada is a decent venue. We've been there a couple of times.
The opening band was Teenage Mysticism. They were fine. They had this old school rock meets emo feel. I liked them overall. They have some potential.
The next band was Turbo Fruits. They totally rocked my face off. It was full on wall of sound, It danced between hard rock and metal. I totally recommend seeing these guys live if you have the change.
Finally, Deer Tick came on. The set was more inconsistent tonight. There was a nice blend of old and new and covers. John has all the charisma for the group and they are beginning to let the others take a lead role. It's inconsistent. It's fun to watch this band grow. It's interesting to see where this will be going.
It's late. I have an mid morning meeting. This counts as my Day 2 creation.
