More crisis-mapping

A few weeks ago I posted with info about thing you can do from home to help in a very real way with emergency response after the typhoon in the Philippines, particularly mapping effected areas in Open Street Map so that recovery workers know where things are (or at least used to be), including villages and roads and buildings.

It's incredibly valuable work, if a bit tedious, and it's a non-nebulous way to help which costs nothing but your time. While I freely admit that it can be a bit repetitive, I have also been amazed at how many objects I, as a rank beginner who frankly isn't that good at it, can add in a very short period of time.

I'm posting about it again because yesterday the Red Cross asked the Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team to map a specific area by later this week. You can read more at the HOT blog here.

It would be amazing if any of you have some time this week if you could do a little mapping (or a lot!). I'm making this post public, so please signal boost.
