Hey, cool!

I have yet again been away from the computer. While I was gone I got a mod's choice at Elfwood.

I'm inside today because it's cold. I'm scanning art. I'll be back later today.

I have been trying to grab every last second of good weather to go outside and finish up the garden. The 9.5 of the 10 cubic meters of mulch have been dispersed across the garden but I've had to take a break now because 1. my knees are all bruised. (I carry mulch tubs with my knees? Who knew.) and 2. the cold, damp, crappy weather has arrived. (Brrr. Hydrangeas, roses, dahlias still blooming though. )

Accustomed as I am to New England weather, I was shocked last NZ winter to discover that even in winter here, the weeds continue to grow and (!) breed. And maybe it's not 'winter' but just the rainy season because the weeds were HUGE! Thus all the mulch. *looks out window at the mulch* The garden looks FAB! Eeeeeeee!

For the last year we've been working on big picture elements in the garden: cutting down trees, cutting brush, learning the plants and light patterns, moving a few bushes and large perennials around, weeding, mulching, digging things up, pruning, pruning, pruning, mulching. The garden has been in that butt-ugly transition stage, the place where there's little point in playing with cute little annuals because you won't even see them in the mess.

Finally we are past that and now we'll get to play. I expect I'll spent this winter drooling over seed packets. Hollyhocks! Cosmos! Impatiens!

I still need more mulch, though.
