003 [] He won't promise to be faithful, but he has an angel's smile

You know, there's a reason [Dad wiped the dinosaurs out and created you guys out of mud] those creatures were wiped off the face of the planet back home. And I don't remember saving a few--even in one of my pocket dimensions--so you fuck-ups really shouldn't be allowed to mess with time. Or genetics. Either way. You're going to hurt yourselves. Chopper. My name is Chopper. Being called a type of food just makes things worse.

[Oh geez, you certainly know how to push his interest buttons. Thankfully he's already aware of Yuuko's "price" for wishes, so as stupidly excited and gullible as he can be about this offer, he's still a tiny bit wary.]

...what happens after I get my wish? If I even want anything.

Everyone wants something.

Nothing happens. I grant you a wish and that's that.

W-Well, I guess so, but...

[Thinking about sweets and beams and pirate ships and cotton candy and sweets and robots and cotton candy and home--]

I-I'm a doctor though, so I'm not just going to say yes that easily, e-even if you're thinking of giving me a wish! A-And, I don't really need it anyway! I've got to make sure nothing happens that we can't be prepared for, so you need to tell me what you can do without your chip.

[He laughs.] I can do anything, kiddo. You want provisions for the winter? I can do that. You want better medical supplies? I can do that. You want a baby fire-breathing dragon with two heads that lays golden eggs? I can do that too.

I can do anything I want with the universe. It's my playground.

No? Just. No. No explanation, no reason, no excuse. Just. No.

Why.

[Ace went through enough trouble to remind him of this problem, he'd rather not get him further in danger than he could already be.]

I-I'm sorry, but... all of that, that's too much. I really don't think it's a good idea for you to... g-get your chip out... just yet...

That's my decision. I'm, very sorry.

[He stares at the reindeer on the other side of the screen for a pregnant moment. He's still good at reading people even if his Grace is off in Timbuktu without him right now.]

If I have to wait my full month first then I can put up with that. I don't have much choice, now do I? But I'm worth a lot more without this inhibitor inside this... this meatsuit I'm stuck in just because a handful of dolts decided it would be all right to trap a--a god into! That shouldn't even be possible!

[He takes a moment to calm down.]

I give you my word I'm not here to hurt anyone. I don't just go around willy-nilly smiting people for no good reason.

All I want is to be me. And I can give you whatever you want in repayment for a little operation.

[He's uncomfortable enough with this conversation already, which isn't at all helped at the mention of the word 'god'. This, definitely isn't what he was thinking this would all lead to, and for a moment he wonders who in the world was the idiot that told you about his skill to remove chips.]

...I'll, have to think about it for a little while. I'm going to get the other doctors' input on this as well, just to be safe. Just p-please wait and be patient.

[Denmark.]

Fine. [Patience is NOT one of Gabriel's strongest virtues.] Just don't come crying to me after everyone freezes to death this winter.

[No surprises there.]

I already know that you don't waste time with crying when those kinds of things happen. Besides, it didn't happen last year and it's not going to happen this year.

Is that right? Then why do people keep whining about it all over the place? Look, I know this place isn't in the best of shape--that's obvious!--so don't sugar coat it for yourself. It won't do anybody any good, least of all you.

...I lived on an island where it was like this all the time, because it was a winter island, so it doesn't bother me at all. But, everyone else didn't live anywhere like that. So when you're not used to weather like this, it only makes sense to complain about it, even if that doesn't really help. That's why I think like that. I'm not, sugar-coating anything. I just want to think that things will be okay.

[And he fidgets, visibly uncomfortable. It never ceases to bother him when the cold issue is brought up. Seeing people have to deal with it when it's nothing but ideal weather for you... he feels guilty, oddly enough.]

[Loki tilts his head.] They make it sound like people died last winter here. I've seen people die from the cold, and it's not pretty. It's not very fun for the dying person, either.

[He pauses, considers.]

My name is Loki. It means Wildfire. And if I'm anything it's unpredictable. But I'm also... I have also helped a lot in the past, too. Giving you my name may not be the wisest thing to do in trying to convince you to reconsider--the stories about me aren't all that flattering typically--but it's the truth and maybe that might mean something.
