I got into you
Like a crowded subway car.
Arms suspended
Reaching for balance,
Stumbling against a stranger.
Inhale, lungs heavy,
Air damp with sweat.
You of silver bars,
You of graffiti walls.
Leaning, legs spread,
Against the outside -
Pulse-pulse,
Pulse-pulse,
Beat of tunnel walls.
Lulled by the heat,
Security of strangers,
Words exchanged
For entertainment.
Knees bend and flex,
Nerves unwind,
Mind wanders.
Closer to the metal,
Facing modern columns.
I or they have moved.
Between stops we race.
My mouth kisses metal,
Tastes copper
And heartbeats.
Sideways in the world,
Dry and sticky floor.
My knee scrapes,
Your boot moves.
The scramble,
The step dance and rush -
First off, and then on -
At the station.
Clean air brushes
Me rising in
An empty car
Before the doors
Ring shut and we
Move on.
