Hello, meet my best friends, Hamsha and Frankie.
Tonight we went to the now gentrified Melbourne suburb of Fitzroy to check out some live music. We made our first stop at The Old Bar along Johnston Street, literally seconds away from where I practice yoga. We weren't able to stay for very long because half the crowd evoked Mr. Creosote in Monty Python. At one point, an outraged man hurled a glass of beer to this other man's face and drops of it hit me. Having the thought of three barfing individuals from previous instances in the same night hovering over my head, I jumped and let out an ear-shattering shriek, thinking I got pieces of vomit on my jacket.
Needless to say, we decided the crowd at the bar tonight was way too seedy for our taste and headed for Bar Open along Brunswick Street. The band playing was Sine, which sounded like a fusion of reggae, funk and electronica to me. They were actually pretty impressive. I might check out more of their music later in the day.
Oh, and a bit of advice from the two most hardworking girls in town, Hamsha and Triccie: the easiest way to get to the top of Lonsdale St. from Melbourne Central is to take an express train to Southern Cross, and then take either Tram 86 or 96 to stop 10. Yep.
