In-Character Information
Name: Ushiwaka, commonly referred to as simply Waka
Game/Series: Okami
Teacher/Student/Other: Teacher
Canon Point: Just a little while post-game.
Age: VERY OLD, at least 200 years old (looks to be in his 20s). This is due to him being of the Moon Tribe, a tribe that lives (or well, lived) much longer than any other mortal humanoid.
Grade Level/Class Taught/Job: Music teacher
Dorm or Living Arrangement: Dorm, please. ♥

Personality:

Waka is exactly what one would describe as a BAMF In Total Control of Himself. He is very calm, composed, and well-kept whatever the moment, whether it be as minuscule as a broken glass or as grim as a person's death (see, Queen Himiko's). He rarely ever displays any negative emotion, even if deep down, he feels the sadness or anger bubbling up within. He sees that as a way to progress, to handle things to the best of his ability while keeping cool and chill. Acting rash or reacting from high emotion can only do so much, and if anything, make things worse. He would rather work against that.

Alongside this laidback disposition, he is frequently a tad playful in his speech, sometimes to the point of even being a tad mocking if the situation calls for it. He is light-hearted in whatever he says- surely an optimist from how he tries to give a cheerful attitude throughout the worst of times. He will even take a dire situation and likely make a few wisecracks, a little joking banter, and add a dash of charm to make one delicious, sickeningly cheerful brew. (It's no wonder Issun's so annoyed by him and how he doesn't seem to take things very seriously, isn't it?)

Being too stoic and serious will also not get him far, he realizes. Take things in stride, be relaxed, and handle life with a thoughtful and rational head. That's what he thinks. Handling life with acceptable resolve and peace of mind is the way to go, and rushing through or being hasty can only end in disaster sometimes. Sloppiness is far from his forte, and any mistake like that is considered a failure on his part, one he must improve upon. Taking failure by crying or being upset? Psh, no way. The only way to go is to prove yourself and do what you must to make up for it. (See, his handling of the Ark of Yamato.)

Through and through, Waka is that kind of guy that will just go with the flow, no matter what.

Despite this, Waka certainly does feel emotions like any other person, human or celestial. He does get upset, he gets angry, and he gets afraid, just like anyone else. No human is without that, he feels, but it is all a matter of how to handle it. He rarely shows these emotions, instead replacing them with his aforementioned mask of amusement and an everlasting jovial mood. He can't let those emotions get in the way of what he must do, after all. That just wouldn't go over well.

While Waka holds an enigmatic and aloof manner to himself, referring to things vaguely and keeping his intentions partially under a rug, he is honest and blunt throughout what he says and does. Yes, this is even to the point of referring to Amaterasu, the goddess of the Sun whom he holds in high regard, as 'ridiculous' and 'weakened' after battling her a couple of times. While he may go about his facts, opinions, and prophecies in many a vague manner, sometimes with statements that only make sense in hindsight, he rarely ever speaks a lie. He just goes about things in a way that takes some time to piece together.

Another markedly noticeable aspect of Waka's speech is how often he litters it with sweet-sounding French phrases. He frequently uses terms such as 'au revoir', 'mon amie', 'bonjour', and 'ma cherie' in his speech. Along with that, he also uses terms that may even seem a bit out of place for his time period, such as 'baby' and 'rock' in the slang definition of the word. It is only even more of a show of how light and easy his speech is. He's laidback and chill, and oh, does he ever show it.

All in all, while full of any regular emotion and holding seriousness to a certain extent, Waka is relaxed, in control, and absolutely full of optimism. While his intentions may seem a blur at first from how much of an enigma he comes off as, he has a pleasant heart and a mind full of determination. It just may take a good while to finally see that.

Now that that's over...

Au revoir, baby!

------

After the defeat of Yami, the trip to the Celestial Plains on the ark took a bit of a wrong turn, so to speak. Dimensional rifts and time compression is a cruel mistress, for sure, but as fate had it, Waka was dumped from the Ark and fell. He fell and fell until he wasn't even sure he could fall anymore, only to land surprisingly safely in none other than Final Destination City.

How odd that destiny made it that he must be here, and yet if he's here, there must be a reason. Despite this, the Ark, the Plains, Amaterasu... all three of them plagued his mind as he searched the city. The direction he went lead him out of the large town, further into new territory, into the courtyard of Capcom High.

They were in need of a music teacher, and needless to say, the moment couldn't have been any more coincidental. They needed it just as Waka had spilled into the city. This, he decided, must have been fated. He saw a future here... a bright future. Something told him that he needed to be here. The Celestial Plains, however, were also very important, but as luck would have it, the way universes are handled in this area is quite odd.

Perhaps, however, he could balance both. He could manage to get to the Plains from here. That in itself was a relief, as they were his duty right now, a duty that he couldn't just flatout abandon and leave in the hands of the great Amaterasu. For some reason, however, he thought... no, he knew he had to be here, as well.

He enrolled for a good year at Capcom High as the music teacher. As time passed, he enjoyed being there, and was even able to manage juggling his duties at the high school and the Plains at once. However, as time waned on, he saw a different future.

That different future belonged to a different school. A completely different area with very similar lifestyles, albeit a bit zany, he felt.

His next stop was Smash Academy. They, too, needed a music instructor. How terribly fitting. Perhaps he could give this little place a try...

Anything Else?:

- Obligatory 'Essay's basics headcanon' section of the app that is always necessary for me yeeeeeeeeeah. Birthday is June 22nd, he's about 5'8", and his favorite color is pink. Awwwww yeeeeeeeah.

- He has a number of favorite foods, especially including some of his favorites such as zōsui and imoni. Blah blah traditional Japanese stuff. He is very curious about food from other cultures, though. While he doesn't have a large appetite or anything, expect him to be taste-testing quite a bit. He's not really picky. ♥

- He is also commonly referred to as 'Tao Master Waka', as he is the captain of Sei'an City's Tao Troopers.

- He refers to himself as a prophet, and in all honesty, it is strongly hinted that he has some manner of psychic ability to look into the future. He can't foresee everything, but he can see bits and pieces of the future. This will be handled cautiously, and I'll likely have a permissions post for this in case he sees other characters' futures and decides to pull the 'half-baked prophet' card.

- He has two swords: one in his katana, and his beam sword, Pillow Talk (h e h), disguised as the flute he frequently plays. He will certainly be bringing both.

- He also has a Water Tablet, as he is of the Moon Tribe and it is a Moon Tribe artifact. This allows him to walk on water. Yep, Moon Tribers with Water Tablets are Okami Jesus... es. Except not at all.

- He is also able to fly and glide for very short distances, but not nearly the amount, say, a bird could do. The amount of flight he can accomplish is deceptively minimal.

- Oh yes, and of course, he is good with instruments, especially with wind instruments. There's a reason why he's taking music class on, babes.

- Yes, it is a hat. Cue OH MY GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD. Brendan's just a poser okay.

In-Character 1st person writing sample (journal):

[A video post suddenly pops up on the journal from a peculiar, unfamiliar name. The feed is a tad fuzzy for a moment as Waka fumbles with the camera, but after a moment, he can be seen. His hat is nestled snugly on his head, mostly hiding his long, thick blonde hair, and his expression is typically bright.

With a laidback, single wave, he gives a playful little head tilt.]

Two schools, a rival to one another, met together by fate in ways that neither may have expected... all piecing together as met to be. How is that for, perhaps, an unforeseen future for two split academies?

[He gives a bit of a half-bow to the camera.] And I, Waka, god's gift to man, am thrilled to see how your new path will unfold. Bonjour, Smash Academy! [He pulls himself upright and gives a smile to the camera.]

It is a great pleasure to see what is considered to be Capcom High's grandest rival. I have seen many an endeavor both have endured together, and to see the lines begin to blur is refreshing. Rivalry and bickering can't persist for too long, no? Soon, friendships may be formed, ties knotted in unexpected ways... and I am far too excited to watch your tale continue. Yes, tres bien, the tale of two schools!

[He clasps two hands together, one holding his flute and the other empty.] And I will be here up-close with the action. Mes amours, you are looking at your brand-new music instructor, Capcom's one and only!

[He leans forward and places a hand over the button to shut off the feed.] I assure you that we will be meeting quite often. Let's all come around and introduce ourselves now. Now, now, no need to rush- I will be patient. [He chuckles and gives another small wave.]

Au revoir!

In-Character 3rd person writing post:

Ah, the sweet sounds of nature. The birds chirping, the wind whistling, and the bugs humming, all music to his precious ears. Waka brandished his sword and took a moment to take in the world's natural tunes. It's not like he's in any real rush to take these Sandbags for a spin anyhow.

Oh, how beautiful it all sounded. Even the Stadium itself, intended to be a battlefield, proved to be stunning on a fine summer day. How he adored it so. Quelle belle, quelle belle.

He lowered his gaze to meet the Sandbag's. How odd that a training material is one to bear eyes, to live, and yet it seemed to adore its duty. It stared at him longingly, as if yearning for him to attack and knock it a good few acres away. He couldn't possibly say no to that look on its... 'face' (?).

He raised his sword, and in an instant, he spun the flute in his hand and allowed it to transform into his precious main weapon. Both swords hung from his hands, both at ready, both looking fierce.

"Are you well-prepared, mon amie? These babies pack quite a punch!"

The Sandbag swayed slightly in response, as if beckoning him. It needed to be launched as far as possible. It needed to see and feel Waka's power in full, a craving that Waka had yet to understand, yet it didn't mean he wouldn't comply.

He raised both blades slightly in his arms, and the only warning he granted the living sack was, "Let's rock, baby!"

SMACK. Both swords slammed into the sandbag at once. Its only ability was to launch on impact, so while the slices proved strong, it was a matter of how far it flew. It flew some feet away, about a third of the way through the Stadium, before landing in a heap in the grass.

Waka gave a lopsided grin and lowered both blades as he approached the mangled bag. He hadn't expected it to fly that far, but he couldn't exactly say he was against that if the Sandbag wasn't. He stepped over to it and gave a curt nod.

He could have sworn he heard it thank him, though. Huh. It was probably just the wind.
