Instead of writing a lengthy rant about how a Democratic Congress tries to accomplish sneaky things with minimal news coverage and most of the American public on vacation anyway, I'm just going to say this: PLEASE badger your Congressmen with as many phone calls, emails, letters, or any other messages you can to tell them how you want them to vote on the immigration bill (S. 1639) which has been brought back up for consideration. I know I want my voice to be represented, and it's not going to be unless I am persistent.
Now, I am not racist or exclusivist (well, not on ethnic bases, at least) and I have nothing against LEGAL immigration, but I am not pleased with how Congress is trying to deal with millions of illegals (and that's what they are-illegal, not "undocumented") that are already here. Passing a bill that puts legal restrictions/requirements on people who did not heed/respect the law in the first place will be ineffective and idiotic. That said, I do not want S. 1639 to pass and am doing everything in my power to let my supposed representatives, and even the President, know so.
That's right kids. I emailed the President.
And even if you do want this bill to pass, (I'm not trying to change your mind, just wanting people to take an active stand on issues) let your Congressmen know that. I've just been losing a lot of faith in the whole "representative government" idea and think our representatives ought to be accountable to the American people and should listen to what (ahem LEGAL) Americans want.
Okay, so I did rant.
But I could have ranted more.
(Just go to senate.gov or house.gov and find your state's congressmen and they'll have a contact link from there)
