only the 2nd voltron series has awesome mecha. voltron with the lions is not as awesome

i didn't realize there was a Voltron without lions. but the lions ARE Voltron!!!!!

I can vouch for Eureka Seven and Gunbuster, they're both in my top tier. E7 is ~54 episodes long and it takes some time to get into (it's time well spent), but Gunbuster is only six episodes. A couple FYIs: Gunbuster's sequel, Diebuster, is crap. And Gunbuster has some pretty ridiculous fanservice. I'm talking lingering frontal nudity on more than three occasions. E7's English dub is slightly better than the Japanese dub, imo.

Gurren Lagann might interest you if you're looking for really enjoyable dumb entertainment. I really can can't think of anything more entertaining. You can safely judge it upon seeing the first episode.

I'm on episode 11 of Monster and I'm totally hooked.
