Well, an offhand comment about a long-ago discussed topic has brought new excitement into our lives.
Raqs al-Hamra is hoping to expand!
It is so weird to say it. I mean, we have been talking about this for almost a year now on and off, but never felt the time was right to even consider taking on new members. But somehow, tonight, when Renee mentioned it offhandedly at the beginning of troupe rehearsal, the rest of rehearsal was a big meeting to plan our open auditions in January! WHEE!
Announcements will be made soon, but the date is January 4th, time TBA. We have the auditions planned out already. It happened so fast, but it felt right for the first time.
As if my time were not already so divided...the idea of bringing any of my Shaia Tribe girls into Hamra is a tough thought to wrap my mind around. I want Shaia to grow with my students' skills, and want it to become more serious with time. How does the line get drawn between Hamra and Shaia? What happens when priorities get nebulous and criss-crossy? I have always prioritized Hamra, and still plan to. It is easy to make that choice when I am the only one who has to juggle my time for it. What happens when I am dually in charge of gals from both Hamra and Shaia? Who gets what gigs first? How do we keep our vocabulary separate and unique when we are several of us studying the same stuff in two different environments?
I guess I should worry about that when it happens. No sense in fretting when I can't do anything about it until it is in my lap...
I am still excited.
...and we are making troupe hip scarves. LOL! FUN!
'Night.
