Pleasantly surprised by Vera Wang's 2012 collection, considering that most of the time when I think of Vera Wang I think big poofy wedding gowns and gorgeous gossamer....... But these prints and clean lines have been incredibly breathtaking, although I did see some resemblances in her designs to Project Runway Finalist Viktor Luna's designs for the competition.. The prints are somewhat alike in my opinion and this dress below bears a resemblance to the one he created for the Nina Garcia challenge.
The dress on the left is Luna's, but the one on the right is Vera Wang. Not exactly similar, but I do see overlapping ideas, especially with the shapes. Maybe it's because I've been watching the latest season over and over again just to re-live the magnificent collections of Luna and the few beauties Joshua M came up with. Both were my favourite designers seeing as they pushed their ideas and evolved the most, with the most able hands for sewing and crafting new shapes. Anya, the season's winner, in my opinion has not pushed herself enough and has been extremely predictable with her shapes and use of textiles. Although, yes, her final products have been beautiful. But it's just my own opinion on who should have won *shrugs*.
Anyway, back to the collection. It has definitely got me thinking about long flowing gowns in a breathtaking sapphire blue print, and rompers with amazing detail at the shoulders and/or hips in white or even the same print as the gowns. I'm not one for rompers, personally, but seeing newer renditions of it and the jumper, a close cousin, on the television and in some collections have got me salivating for a pair of jumps myself!
Ultimately though.. Has this and will this collection be an anomaly for Vera Wang? You decide.
