Flower and Willow: Their Room: Morning

May 05, 2005 06:29

Rolling awake as if it was simply time and she had no control to sleep any longer, Willow opened her eyes and yawned, untangling her legs from Flower who was kind of hot and sticky under this blanket. It occurred to her then that she'd been awoken by her need to go to the little girls room, but she was in no real rush, she could at least wake up ( Read more... )

Anna stood a few moments in pause as Willow's words echoed in her mind. "Oh Willow," Anna said, turning and throwing her arms around her sister, hugging her close. "I...oh... your period." She said, naming the one thing women shared in common. It made sense. Willow was getting towards the age when it would occur. Flower had said Willow had been all over the mood scale yesterday, which was abnormal for Willow (one who was usually calm). She seemed ok for the moment.

Anna had been terrified the first time she'd gone through her menstural cycle. The entire thing had hit her like a ton of bricks, catching her off guard. She'd woken up one day to find herself bleeding and was terrified. No one had warned her it would happen, it just did. The first thing she'd done, after cleaning up a bit, was run to Ryan. He'd gone nearly white in the face when she told him she was bleeding and couldn't find the wound. Then he'd sent her into another room for a little while. When he'd come in, he hadn't exactly looked her in the face. Finally, Ryan had sat down next and said. "You..you.. this won't hurt you." Anna hadn't understood what he meant. Her entire stomach or whatever felt knotted and she'd felt like throwing up.

He'd given her a small explination. It would happen once a month and it meant that she was now a young woman. He hadn't gone into detail and the conversation had been slightly uncomfortable for both parties. Ryan had told her that there were specific supplies women had to use for it and that he'd have someone get her some. Then he'd said that he wished Salene was around to help. The first time had been the most hellish week for Anna since the virus. Her body felt fat, she cried over everything, and the cramps made her throw up. Most people had avoided her for the weekend. Except Ryan, he made sure that she was doing ok and didn't need anything.

It had passed. Anna got it every so often, but not anything regular. She'd always wondered if that was normal or not, but she was thankful for the fact that it only came when it did. Clinging tightly to Willow, Anna hugged her. "Its not going to be fun, but... its not so bad. You're going to have a lot of different emotions, but it'll pass. If you need anything, you can talk to me about it. I've been there.... though Salene probably knows more..."

Rolling her eyes, Flower flung herself back into the pillows, trying to ignore what they were talking about, but she wasn't tired anymore, she was wide awake, even if she was cranky. Sitting up just as quickly as she'd flopped down, Flower got off of the bed and went to the dresser, putting on what she'd worn yesterday before putting the dress on. She cared little that Willow and Anna were in the room, that they'd see her get changed, who cared, she'd seen them get dressed and vice versa for years now, it didn't even force her to pause in thought about it.

Pulling her capri pants on, she buttoned them before slipping her head and arms into her pretty pink floral shirt. Moving at a rather fast pace, she stuck all of her jewelry on just the way she liked it. Opting out of putting on her regular old sneakers, Flower reached for her dress shoes from the wedding. She didn't care, they were too pretty not to wear, besides, she knew better than anyone her feet were still growing, who knew how long she'd be able to wear them. It wasn't as if weddings happened every day. Or...did they?

"Hey," she said, spinning around to face her sisters, interrupting them and caring little, "Do you think they have fancy dress up things all of the time? I mean, when do we get to wear our dresses again?" Did it matter? "Cause if they don't do fancy stuff a lot, I wanna wear it anyway. I mean, it's good clothes, right? It fits me now, might as well wear it before I start sobbing at everything and growing boobies or something," Flower made a slightly inappropriate movement to indicate boobies growing from her chest, giggling and bouncing a little. She was starving and in a good mood, that was rare.

Flower got moving but Willow was distracted by Anna, she was being so sweet, and all Willow could do was collapse against her a bit and start crying. She couldn't control these tears, they just rolled down her face and she felt like sobbing a little. Sniffling, Willow nodded against Anna's shoulder, clinging back to her, "Thank you," she whispered out, her eyes closed, glad to have someone like Anna here to help her through this.

"S..Salene was really nice though, I'm glad I have her, we have her. Did, who did you have?" How long had Anna had hers? Could Willow remember her ever having hers? Yeah, that probably explained the times she laid around in the house, in the bed, looking miserable and being kinda cranky. Now Willow understood, back then she'd just felt bad for Anna for getting sick, just like some of the other older girls.

"Oh man," Willow pulled back and looked at Anna with large sparkly eyes, "That's what was going on at the house! I always just thought older girls got sicker more, you mean, I'm not gonna just get sick? I always thought it was bad, like I was afraid to get older cause sick is bad," she felt almost relieved over this. It was no fun, it sounded kinda bad actually, but it wouldn't kill her!

"Thank you, An-" her eyes darted to Flower who interrupted them, frowning for a minute as she considered this. They wouldn't be doing fancy stuff a lot, hadn't Sammy told her they didn't do things like this all of the time? She was going to answer her, but she started making fun of Willow. Gasping before glaring, Willow crossed her arms across her chest, "I do NOT have boobies!" she half shrieked out, "So what if I did? They aren't bad, someday we're gonna look like women like Salene and Ebony and Amber, that's not a bad thing Flower!!" She was scowling at her now, "You just wait Tatum Katherine, someday you're gonna get yours too, and boobs, and someone is gonna make fun of you and you're gonna feel sorry!" Willow almost stormed off, but she just stood there, angry tears forming in her eyes at her inconsiderate little brat of a sister.

Anna wrapped her arms around Willow. "Hey," Anna said softly, "its ok... really. You'll be fine." Giving her a small hug, Anna let her cry as much as she needed to, Anna understood. "Well, I guess Ryan kind of explained it to me. Then the other older girls sort of helped me understand what was going on. I don't really remember, its been awhile." Anna released her and stepped back a little, "You'll just feel kind of crummy for about a week and then it will go away for awhile."

Turning to look at Flower, Anna nearly giggled at the motions that Flower's hands were making. It was rather amusing. The look on Willow's face suggest otherwise, and Anna tried to sober her face more. "Willow... Flower...," she said looking between them. "Willow, I don't think Flower trying to insult anyone. She was...just making an observation."

"And Flower, you know that Willow isn't feeling very well right now, try not to pick fights with her. Now, breasts are neither good things nor bad things. They just are. You will both develope them and that will be that. Can we forget all this nonsense now and go eat breakfast? I'm starving..." Anna was trying to do the more dipolmatic thing. The lack of sleeping was wearing on her nerves, but she wouldn't let either Willow or Flower see that if possible. Perhaps she could take a nap later or something.

Flower squished her face up and gave Willow a look completely full of attitude, they were gonna look like women? "I never said it was a bad thing, Willow Jane!" She was ready to scrap with her except Anna broke in and told her not to pick fights with her, on account of her feeling so bad. Giving a huff and crossing her arms across her chest, Flower blew the mess of hair hanging in her face up in the process. "Fine, I can forget it if she can forget it, but I'm going to brush my hair!" It was all said with more attitude than necessary and she simply turned on her heel and stormed over to the dresser, yanking the brush off of the top.

Pulling the brush through the tangles of her red and purple hair roughly, tears began springing to her eyes from the irritating pull of each stroke. She wasn't crying about Willow using her real full name, or about being shouted at, it was cause the tangles hurt to brush out. Stupid full name, stupid Willow!

Her eyes simply narrowed as Flower used her middle name, like she cared? She was just upset to get her full, real, name used against her, it almost made Willow feel smug. Rolling her eyes at Flower storming over to the dresser to brush her hair, Willow sighed and shook her head, looking at Anna with disdain and woe. "I don't want to feel like this all day, or for it to get worse, I don't want to fight with you guys and feel crummy. It's not fair! What happens to boys? I mean, we go through this, what horrible things do they go through?" Willow didn't even know why she wanted to know these things, what it mattered if boys went through something gross too, she didn't exactly want to think about it either.

Putting her hands lower, on her abdomen, Willow cringed and sat down on the edge of her bed. "I'm not really hungry, it just kinda hurts in here, like, like all of me is empty or something," she frowned, her eyes trained on the floor and trying to figure out what that dull pain was. Sighing pathetically, Willow looked up at Anna with sad eyes again, how could this not kill her? And it was going to get worse? "Hurry up Flower," she snapped, looking over her shoulder, "I'm hungry and I'm tired of waiting for you!"

Anna felt pulled in both directions between her sisters. Willow was bound to be rather sensitive about her period with her moods flucuating as they were and it didn't help that Flower was proding at her about it. That didn't mean that Willow had to yell at Flower thought. Rubbing at her temple, Anna glanced up as Flower stormed over and began to brush her hair. Wincing, she watched Flower rip the brush through her hair. As she was about to intercede, Willow began talking.

"Boys....?" Anna said, feeling a little lost. She didn't really know if they went through anything similar. All she knew was what Ryan had explained to her and what she'd learned. "I just don't know Willow. I would assume so, but... it'd just be an assumption." Anna frowned and chewed at her lip in thought. This was something that Willow should be asking Salene, not her. Anna felt her heart go out to Willow as she sat on the bed. "I know, I know." Sighing, Anna looked to Flower, "it'll be like this for awhile. Once you've gotten past the first one, it gets easier. You can start to figure out the mood swings and react accordingly. It..." Anna was interuppted as Willow snapped at Flower. "Willow!" Anna said, giving her sister a stern look. "Don't take this out on Flower, it isn't her fault."

Flower seemed to still be struggling with the brush. Giving Willow one more look, Anna walked over and took the brush from Flower. She could see the tears standing there. "Hey," Anna said softly, "it's ok." Carefully Anna began to brush Flower's hair hoping to sooth her so that Willow would be soothed by proxy. "I think we all just need to calm down. I don't want to hear another word from either of you arguing with the other for ten minutes. If you don't have something nice and sincere to say, then don't say anything." Anna didn't mean to come off so motherly and stern, but Flower and Willow needed time to cool down.

Her chin wobbled as Anna and Willow talked to each other and ignored her, hot, angry tears spilling down her cheeks, but she didn't care. They couldn't see them, and she wouldn't sniffle even if the snot started pouring out of her nose. She'd learned long ago how to cry so silently no one would know, being tortured by the Chosen would teach you that. The thing about Flower, however, was the longer she was made to cry silently, the angrier she got, and the angrier she got, the more whatever had made her cry would turn into rage. She was little, but she was easy to set off, quick to explode.

Willow's comment about hurrying up was enough, but Anna instantly interjected, reprimanding Willow for taking it out on her, and Flower felt like collapsing on the floor in a sobbing heap. She didn't but she felt her anger deconstructing and leaving her a crumbly mess of emotion, exhausted already. It had her so instantly drained that she didn't even notice Anna walk over until the brush was in her hand.

Now she sniffled, wiping at her nose with the back of her hand, all the way up her arm practically, she didn't care, and she simply pouted at Anna, closing her eyes and letting her brush her hair for her. How could Anna tell Flower not to talk when it was Willow doing all the bad fighting?! That just proved to make her even angrier, but she didn't have the strength left to get angry again. She just wanted to crawl back into the bed. "I'm hungry and I would like to eat breakfast now," she said, as if she was made of cardboard, emotionless, stubborn.

Did boys even have anything that compared to this? Willow now wanted to know, she wanted to know it all, everything, she'd just have to ask someone older. She'd ask Ryan but it was embarrassing, Kerry would turn fourty shades of red, Macy would tell her to bugger off, Tatty, well Tatty didn't talk anyway, who could she ask? Her face screwed up, it wasn't fair, she hated feeling like this, she hated being this way, she hated hated HATED THIS!!!

Willow scowled at the floor, mad now that Anna had gone all Mom on them, though she was used to it, she simply crossed her arms over her flat chest, glaring at the hard tile beneath her barefeet. She had been nasty to Flower, but Flower had said nasty things to her too, at least they were both in trouble.

The sound of a sniffle made her turn her head, looking over her shoulder at her sisters, one brushing the other's hair, it was clear that Flower was crying. Now, Flower was still human, and still a girl, and she cried, but it was rare. She was so full of spunk, so full of joy, bounce, it was almost a shock to hear her breaking down into tears and sniffling like that. Willow uncrossed her arms and felt instantly horrible, just horrible, standing up and moving to the foot of the bed, watching with sad eyes. Her voice broke Willow's heart, she sounded like a broken toy, like a doll that had been played with so much and now her batteries had run out. Willow had killed her fiery spirit, was that even possible?

Walking over to them, Willow knelt down in front of Flower, taking her hands. "Sorry Flower, I didn't mean to upset you, I'm just, it hurts, a lot, in here," she let go with her right hand and put it on her stomach, "A lot, and it makes me kinda cranky. It's not you, ok? Cause if it was you, well you'd know, this isn't you, right?" Willow wasn't explaining it right, she felt just awful and she couldn't fix it. "Come on, let's go eat, I'm hungry too," she tried to sound more upbeat, she tried to smile like she meant everything, even though she felt so detached from happy emotions right now she wasn't sure she'd ever be able to really feel them again.

Anna chewed at her lip, worrying that she was being to stern with her sisters. Fighting between siblings was natural, only it always made Anna feel a little ill when people fought. There was a headache forming at her temples that spread across her forehead. It pulsed and made her eyes hurt. She was barely concentrating on what was going on around her and dropped the brush, which landed on her foot. Making a sound of pain, Anna bent over to retrieve it as Flower requested to go up to breakfast. There was no inflection in her voice and Anna only chewed at her lip more. Had she been too stern?

Anna no longer felt hungry. Her stomach was upset and jumpy with all the arguing. She couldn't help but think that the mall had changed Ryan's tribe. Flower didn't seem quite so happy, Willow was a lot more argumentative, and even she was a little less tolerant. This could all be attributed to the changes they were going through. It'd been busy yesterday, and today promised to be just as hectic. Setting the brush down, Anna reached up and rubbed at her temples hoping to ease the throbbing.

Willow had walked over to Flower, and was apologizing. The pain in Anna's stomach eased when she saw Willow talking to Flower in a much more civil manner. They had both mentioned how hungry they were, but Anna just felt like sleeping. "Come on, everyone up to the cafe. A little food will make everyone feel a bit more human." She promised, walking out of their room and up the stairs to the kitchen.
